Jeremy at Good As You Has come across a disturbing discovery:
In a new post to their blog, the Ruth Institute, an official National Organization for Marriage affiliate, is lending credence to the “ex-gay” advocacy of one Dr. Phillip Sutton, who is himself an affiliate of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) and who is also editor of NARTH’s so-called Journal of Human Sexuality, a self-published document they’ve been trying to push out as a credible scientific journal]. Here’s the kind of “change” mentality that NOM’s Ruth Institute is working to cultivate among their supposedly civil-marriage-focused flock.
This is why it is important to oppose the “ex-gay” industry. It has little to do with “changing” anyone’s sexual orientation and a lot to do with tricking people into believing homosexuality is a casual choice. Once fooled, these voters are significantly more likely to vote anti-gay. Given this reality, it is no surprise that NOM is jumping on the failed “ex-gay” bandwagon.

Is this the Dr. Phillip Sutton of Michigan, with the degree in Philosophy from Notre Dame, who is listed as “Dr. Phil Sutton” (the Supervising Psychologist) on the Good Samaritan Counseling Center site?
And wasn’t the “Journal of Human Sexuality” a one-off?
This just gets more and more muddled – which, I think, is the purpose.
“It has little to do with “changing” anyone’s sexual orientation and a lot to do with tricking people into believing homosexuality is a casual choice.”
It’s also a cash cow for the anti-gays. That’s why they’re fighting so desperately to keep it going even while the general public is catching on to the fact that it’s BS.
