Even though DADT repeal happened several months back, Tony Perkins continues to be a dead-ender, whining and crying about the inevitable:
The U.S. military isn’t used to surrendering. But when it comes to their moral beliefs, they’ll just have to learn. Hello, I’m Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. Commanders have had to prepare their soldiers for lots of things–but two gay Marines kissing has never been one of them. Without “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” that’s all part of the curriculum. So is keeping quiet about your convictions. “[Let me get this straight],” said Lt. Col. Stacy Maxey. “The Defense Department [will] let … homosexual[s] serve ‘openly’ in the armed forces, but won’t allow Christians [like] myself the freedom to ‘openly’ share the Good News of Christ? … Wearing sexual lifestyle choices on your sleeve is okay, but not your faith?” According to the training materials, “Marines… could be subject to discipline… if they refuse orders–even if [that] refusal is based on strong, sincerely held moral beliefs.” What a tragedy. We’re sending brave people into combat–but at the end of the day, our troops can’t enjoy the same freedoms they’re fighting for!
Actually, the American people don’t have a Constitutional right to be free from boys kissing either, and there is absolutely nothing new about Marines being subject to discipline for refusing orders, even if their orders are based on strongly, sincerely held moral beliefs. There’s no tragedy here. So stop crying, Tony.

I’m always amused when people who train and get paid to kill other people for a living talk about morals.
Two marines kissing? Is THAT what DADT repeal ia about? Funny, I thought it was about gay troops no longer having to lie about who they are.
I confess I was a bit of a s**t back in the day, and if I had to count the number of servicemen I slept with I would need a calculator.
In other words, guys, WE’VE BEEN SERVING ALL ALONG. This strange meme that says “gay” and “military service” are somehow incompatible ignores American military history at least covering the Twentieth Century forward.
And while we’re on the subject, Alexander the Great, one of history’s greatest military leaders, was himself gay.
Scott, I’m envious! ;-) Although my partner was in the Army for 32 years.
Having served for a total time of 12 years and having been gay all those years even though in the closet I must say that the gay culture was alive and well then and I’m sure now. Just like all other aspects of society there will be those who oppose it just like they would oppose something else that they don’t approve of but DADT repeal means that every one is treated equally which by the way is a constitutional RIGHT not Privilege. So all you nay Sayers get a life and deal with it because we have been there since the beginning of time and will be there at the end of time and for all you know you might have a gay friend, relative co-worker etc but not come out to you because of your bigotted beliefs.
They don’t mind hearing other soldiers talking about getting some booty on their next leave, or talking about that hot chick they shagged in town (fornication, possibly adultery too if the shagger is married to someone else). But OMG their “deeply held religious beliefs” if it’s a guy someone else is interested in. What a bunch of crap.
Oh Tony, still moaning about a kiss, get over it already, my partner of 12 yrs. was in the military too and he isn’t afraid to show his love for me in a public kiss.
Tony baby would just LOVE to hot-smooch a Marine.
You just know it.
The fact that the Christian fight was over army institutes blatantly harassing other religions and trying to all but force them to convert hasn’t even crossed his mind. The reason religious right whines about converting is because they don’t have the values to survive without it.
The good news of Jesus Christ is that God loves all His children including His beautiful, wonderful, natural gay children. But this is not the “good news” that anti-gay activists want to indoctrinate others with. They have redefined homophobia to be today’s “good news.” Something no doubt which makes our Lord weep.
The other Good News is that shrill anti-gay activist Perkins is not God, does not speak for God, nor represent God. And the relationships that pro-equality people of faith have with God are not contingent on anything anti-gay activist Perkins believes or says! God is good!
Wait, so they can handle being shot at, things exploding, and all that, but two (wo)men kissing will destroy them?
Logic fail.
BTW, Tony’s probably just jealous because he can’t get any…
WMNKitty: Tony can’t get any WHAT? Any stupider?
You know something? I think that the Marines will be able to handle this, Tony. They’ve been through all kinds of stuff in warfare and I really think two men kissing is pretty small potatoes after all that. But then I have a lot more faith in and respect for our armed forces than you do apparently.
What a twit!!
Tony Perkins is an idiot. He whines that those in the Force cannot refuse to follow an order … even if [that] refusal is based on strong, sincerely held moral beliefs.”
This has always been the case! No one in the Force is permitted to disregard orders due to their religious beliefs or for any reason. There are waivers, but they are rare.
And finally, I am sure that the brave men and women in the Force can handle the utter ordeal of having to be amongst gays and lesbians.
