“…before we accept that he wants them around?”
This is a great speech from a Democratic legislator in Minnesota, where they are considering a bigoted ban on same-sex marriage.

Well said. This ban is just another wingnut strategy for covering up the fact that the Rethugs aren’t doing a damn thing to help the economy. Buncha putzes.
Excellent! He puts it so well.
“Please keep your applause to yourself.” Really?
And if the comments had been supporting “traditional” marriage as between one man and one woman and it had generated applause, would there have been a similar admonition?
I suspect, no.
Good for the legislator, and good for those who spontaneously applauded.
Now, if we could get some spontaneous combusting occuring on the other side… ;)
1. The Minnesota State Supreme Court has already said that the current marriage law on the books is Constitutional. So, this notion that this bill is somehow needed to ‘defend’ traditional marriage is simply not true, agree or disagree with how the law currently stands.
2. A big communication challenge [even when not dealing with human rights or prejudice] in the state is geography.
In this case you have a pretty well organized gay community in large [pretty progressive] urban city of Minneapolis/St Paul, to some extent places like Duluth, St. Cloud, Fargo/Moorhead.
But, once you get into the more rural, small town Minnesota communities, the gay community is much less organized, has far fewer resources and is under much more pressure — economically and socially — not to have this sort of conversation about human rights, human dignity and homophobia.
So, if you look at where Fargo/Moorhead is on the map and where Minneapolis/St Paul is on the map and then you see that a large portion of the State — in west/central, southern and even in the north, where the situation for gay people or straight allies in terms of working within their community on human rights is very, very, very different.
God loves His beautiful, natural, wonderful, amazing gay children! We are made in God’s image and He loves us!
