Of course, the haters at the Westboro Baptist weren’t willing team members, but that doesn’t matter. When Westboro decided to protest Lisa’s show in Topeka, Kansas, she had a great idea: for every one of those rubes that shows up, she’ll donate $1,000 to the Gay Men’s Health Crisis:
48 people, many of them children turned up to the demonstration complete with their usual placards declaring declaring that “God hates fags” and that “Fags are beasts” as well as “the Jews killed Jesus” (Lampanelli is not Jewish).
After the show, Lampanelli tweeted that she’d round up the donation, writing: “I won’t quibble. I’ll make it an even $50,000!!!”
What a lovely gesture! Thanks to Westboro for sending the whole flock out to Lisa’s show, as that money will go a long way toward helping a lot of people.
Here’s some fun video of the event:
Lisa talked to the Village Voice afterward, which was pretty entertaining. On the subject of what she’d like to put in the “for” line of her $50,000 check:
So we’re going to GMHC on Wednesday. I asked if we could put in the memo line of the check, “Courtesy of the in-bred bigots,” but the nice lady at GMHC said that’s a little politically incorrect.
On the subject of people who may think giving Westboro any attention is too much attention:
Some people have told me that I gave them too much attention. Well, I gave them attention to give 50 grand to help stop AIDS. So shut the f*ck up.
All righty then. Good work, Lisa.

I dont know who Lisa Lampanelli is (I am going to find out!)…but, I think I love her and wish we could clone her!
This is a great idea and not only for the performers. Whenever, these creatures show up to protest anything, each person in the crowd should be asked to make at least a $5 donation to a local gay organization that fights for equality. Then before the creatures go home, let them see how much their hatred has generated to foster the fight for equality.
Boy, if anything would fry their asses it would be knowing that their hateful appearances and demonstrations are earning money for the benefit of the very people they hate so much.
That said, I must say the I feel so bad for their children. This is cruelty of the worst sort: To teach your own little ones how to be hateful monsters.
Lisa, an Italian by the way, is the only one that could have come up with this.
You can see the complete disheartened lack of interest in the kids eyes. Most of them were staring at their phones. It’s like they didn’t actually know what they were holding up.
Perhaps the bright ones in there do know, and just don’t want to be disowned yet like their elder siblings have been. Can’t blame them. Homelessness isn’t a very attractive idea to me.

Gene — Lisa’s made a name for herself on the roasts for numerous celebrities. She’s been described as being a combination of Don Rickles and Archie Bunker and mix a truckload of estrogen. She takes no prisoners, and *no one* is immune from her barbed wit.
Good for Lisa to do this for the GMHC!
Gianni — Another way to mock Phread’s Phlok is to get pledges ahead of time based on the number of minutes the bigots set up.
Then put up a large sign they cannot miss across the street from their display of hate and bigotry, and after every minute you change the numbers, making sure they know the donations are made to a particular cause they’re against, especially if it’s at a military funeral.
They’ll always have the right to protest. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with a cost or responsibility.
Oh but Gianni this is not child abuse, it’s just good old fashioned all american, christian values- family bonding, child abuse would be allowing children to be raised by commited legally married homosekchules.
