Yes, really, he has a post up wherein he explains to you, the gentle reader, why you hate him. Look:
The left rarely engages me on policy, which is smart considering they support intellectually and morally bankrupt policies and I support time-tested policies that would actually improve the lives of all Americans – including gays and lesbians. Instead of engaging on policy they rely on personal attacks and name-calling, which is fine, I am a big boy and I can take it.
Eh, uh, no. The left may indeed rarely engage him, personally, on matters of policy, because he is mostly a blow-hard, but not because he has better ideas.
But let’s be honest, the left doesn’t hate me because I am mean or brash or too aggressive – the same label can be applied to many of my critics. No, the left hates me because I have the audacity to stand up to them. They hate me because I am a conservative who happens to be gay. They hate me because I won’t be bullied by them. They hate me because I have dared to wander off the liberal plantation, because I refuse to play the victim card, and because I have rejected their failed big government agenda.
Yeah, that’s it. It can’t be because your entire platform is insane. As for “victim cards,” I hear more whining from wingnuts than I will EVER hear from liberals. Indeed, their entire worldview is built on “stickin’ it to the liberals.” But anyway, now you know why he thinks you hate him. It’s useful to remember that at least 85% of what wingnuts believe involves a massive case of projection.
But in the interest in giving lie to his claim that the left doesn’t engage on matters of policy, here is a long list of liberal sources which spend time every single day engaging on policy, debunking the crap spewed by the Right, and generally informing people far more than any wingnut blog or news organization ever will. What policy does he win on?
Does Barron not believe in global warming?
Does he not believe in evolution?
Does he not believe that the wealthiest Americans should pay their fair share of taxes?
Does he not believe that all children are entitled to a public education?
Does he think insurance bureaucrats in Hartford should decide life and death health needs?
Does Barron not believe we should raise the debt ceiling?
Does Barron believe in launching two major wars and not paying for them?
Clearly, this guy must have slept through the Bush years when conservatives crashed this nation on every level. Not only would we mop the floor with this whining “victim” on substance, but on style points too.
This whole gay and conservative thing is an oxymoron. Or is it just “moron”?
Modern conservatism is a disease that seeks the destabilization of our nation. From culture to finance, nothing they stand for makes any sense and can only be supported by delusional thinkers.
If you doubt my opinion, look at the clowns running for the GOP nomination. Does Barron think Bachmann, Gingrich or Palin would be good for this country? Or does he even care as long as he gets to stiff America on taxes?
As Jacob Weisberg said in Slate a few weeks back, modern conservatives have to believe at least 6 impossible things before breakfast.
I also think it’s funny that he acccuses liberal gays of “playing the victim card,” when this very post from him is an exhibition of “the victim card.”
EVAN! In the interest of ego, you forgot the incredibly talented blog Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters.
There is an outside chance — if the economy gets worse etc. — that hardcore conservatives will take over all branches of government. It could, in my view, lead to one of the scariest ideologies this world has ever seen. Such a scenario would lead to economic collapse and the persecution of all sorts of minorities.
Now, I do not think this is likely to happen and would bet against it. But, the modern GOP has all the marks of an ideology that could mutate rather easily to something dangerous by historical measures.
When a movement isn’t based in reality — and has to have an enemies list at the core of its survival — it is a threat to civilization by nature.
Just think President Sarah Palin with access to the button and Jesus whispering in her ear…we’d be on the autobahn to ruin.
he exhibits a sad combination of lack of interest in those less well off than himself, and a sickly victimhood. Applies to most conservatives, gay or straigh. Add some self hatred to it, and there you have it.
The whole idea behind GOProud is to be a contrarian for contrary’s sake. If these people weren’t also gay, they wouldn’t feel so damn special about themselves.
what a bunch of drama queens.
I don’t hate him because I’ve never heard of him. Sorry to burst your obviously hot air balloon sized ego –umm–what was his name again?
Although after the financial disaster of 2008, every American can plainly see the moral and economic bankruptcy of the conservative agenda, I could care less if Mr. Barron wants to support that failed philosophy. What bothers me is his (and other gay conservatives’) constant personal attacks on gays who don’t share their conservatism. They weaken our movement, not strengthen it. If he/they would stick to expousing their failed economic policies, it would be much better for the unity of our movement. And if they were REALLY against Big Government, they would be against Big Government being involved in our bedrooms, too.
Pfft! He’s probably not even gay.
What a crybaby. Get this man to a good shrink.
I agree with Michael.
