Top defense officials plan to certify Friday that the Pentagon is ready to end the ban on gays serving openly in the military, officials said, a landmark moment after almost two decades of controversy.
The military now has to resolve crucial questions such as what benefits same-sex couples will receive.
While the military will be free to provide some services to same-sex spouses, such as family support for spouses of deployed service members, federal law blocks it from providing them the full range of health, housing and education available to heterosexual couples.
Primary Obama! He hates us! Primary him with an “unelectable pony-promiser!”

How can this new policy be implemented in such a short time when separate quarters have not been built for Same Sex Attraction men and women? A person joining the military has a reasonable expectation of sexual privacy, that a female recruit will not find a ranking male officer entering his barracks or living quarters when For example, when a woman joins the military she has reason to believe that a ranking male officer will not enter her barracks or living quarters where she may be in various stages of undress, or enter the latrine, or enter the showers.
Has separate billeting been made available? And will military personnel who were in place before this policy change be allowed to muster out with full benefits?
And what about the curtains? Will the Same Sex Attraction Barracks have curtains? Will they be fluffy? Will they be tasteful? A person joining the military has a reasonable expectation of tasteful curtains, that curtains in the quarters will not be of unreasonable fluff when For example, when a person joins the military they have reason to believe that the curtains will not allow outside views of the barracks or living quarters, yet not have too much flair.
Will military personnel who were in place under utilitarian curtains before this policy change be allowed to muster out with full benefits?
And won’t someone please think of the children?
JeremiahA,
Throughout my years as a gay teenager in school I used the same changing rooms, showers and toilets as my heterosexual peers. The same applied at university, where I also, like other gay students, shared rooms with heterosexual students. Countless gay men will be able to tell you the same. At sports clubs, municipal swimming pools etc. the situation is similar: all share the same facilities; there are no separate ones for “Same Sex Attraction men and women”. Not a few of my gay friends have heterosexual housemates (of the same sex) – and there is no don’t-ask-don’t-tell nonsense about it either.
So perhaps you will kindly explain to us the alleged need for segregation in the military?
@ Jeremiah,
I wish you would send us a picture of you entering the shower. From your posts, you sound well sexy. I think I have a bit of a crush! (Mmmm, oh Jerry!)
Jeremiah is a troll. He might even be the same troll as kelly-omar-bad becky. Hard to be sure.
He post rergularly at huffpost, and uses such ideas as “marriage equality will eviscertae heteor marriage”.
Don’t bother iwth him. He doesn’t care about anything except poisoning the well.
Jeremiah, further to what William said:
Outside of the army Gays and straights have been sharing showers, toilets, and changing rooms forever. Do you really think the soldiers are so wimpish that they can’t cope with the same things ordinary people do every day? C’mon Jeremiha, get real.
Soon we can say “What was DADT?”
I love it when these hale and hearty str’8s make it sound like being gay means that the sight of any male body just drives us insane and we can’t fight those overwhelming urges to be intimate with said nude male body. Get real, huh?
JerermiahA probably is not all that…and his posting is sheer bigoted fantasy. And “Same Sex Attracted”? Oh, well, anything to avoid having to say “gay or “GLBT”, I guess.
I’m not Jeremiah. While I do think the situation is a bit more complicated than most gay activists acknowledge, Jeremiah’s concerns appear a bit hysterical.
In the end a ban or DADT is probably unsustainable but I do think the military will suffer.
You mean like the thirty-plus militaries that ended their bans suffered elsa?
Tom– and if it does n’t cause any problems in the military– as it hasn’t for any of our allies– will you admit you are wrong?
And will you answer finally my question: WHAT IS YOUR STAKE IN THIS?
Are you ex-gay? do you work for an org like NARTH?
Come clean, if such is possible.
Tom, you may not actually be Jeremiah but you seem to share a brain.
Tom, elsa/evil Becky/Omar/kelly – do you think its ethical to forcibly remain in someone’s home when you’ve been told to leave and never come back?
