I’ll post a bit a more about Rick Perry’s Hate Group-Led Prayer-apalooza later [at some point...I'm in the middle of moving], but I just happened upon this little Facebook exchange that really says everything that needs to be said about the poorly attended event:
Yeah.
[h/t watertiger]

It should have more than four “likes”. By now it probably does.
Well the comment is misleading. First it was attended by over 30,000 not bad. Second our nation and politics sure can use some prayer in learning how to be more civil and compassionate as well as to truly lead with the future in mind. But will say sure hate that this was headed up by AFA.
This organization is headed up by extreme right wing conservatives that pretend to be the voice of God to the conservative/evangelical world. They were in fact the same group who at one time wrote down the license plates of people who frequented a gay bar in Mississippi and then had the license plate numbers revealed on their radio station the next day. To create shame and fear in men and women being open to who they are.
And this speaks volumes to me about how Rick Perry will stand on issues and concerns for us in the lgbt community and this is what I will take a loud and vocal stand against. Men and women using their faith their churches against us and throwing out lies, misinformation and fear in telling the evangelical world who we are and what we are about. Sorry Rick no vote from me and now you have another who will take a stand against you.
It seems the more we have publicly prayed the less that gets done, as we veered towards superstition instead of real solutions. Notice how the less religious a nation the more it prospers? Notice how the primarily religious Republicans and Teabaggers think they are holier-than-thou, so they refuse to compromise.
The 30,000 figure us from the Teabagger organizers and the AFA. I heard that it may have been below 15,000.
I agree about the AFA.
too bad tv news didn’t mock it. I was surprised but they covered it respectfully.
I hardly think prayer is going to teach anyone how to be more compassionate and learn to lead. That takes brains and common sense neither of which come with prayer. That comes with upbringing and hands on teaching. This prayer rally was nothing more than a demo of his plan to enter the presidential race and get the support of the fundies. They’d vote for Satan if he acted like one of them. As for compassion, understanding, learning, and leading, evangelicals need all of that and they obviously aren’t getting it from prayer.
The photo of this rally that I saw in the paper showed a crowd of people with their arms and hands lifted into the air. You could almost hear the Sieg Heil shouts in the background.
A newly emerging wingnut: Julaine Appling

She is quite scary:
“she famously called for nine-month jail sentences and fines of $10,000 for anyone (gay) married in another state who attempted to live in Wisconsin. “I think we have been extremely tolerant to let them live wherever they choose,” ”
However, the article then goes on to point out she is:
“a never-married woman who lives with her lifelong companion, Diane Westphall, in a home they own jointly in Watertown”
I’m now confused. Is she an intensly self-loathing lesbian? Er….
Sorry about posting something which was somewhat random (above) and had nothing to do with the Rick Perry article. I just thought it needed posting.
An even better reply might be “things that actually accomplish something.” So, did the drought abate at the conclusion?
