I had forgotten that Newt Gingrich is sort of kind of pretending to run for president [read: make $$$], but apparently he’s trying to get on the anti-gay bandwagon, because that’s all the rage with dorks right now. You see, our financial problems in America are caused by gays, because, well, you see:
“The concept of family being between man and woman and the concept of all these core values that grow out of 3,000 years of Judeo-Christian tradition,” Gingrich answered. “This is a direct threat to the entire secular world.”
“We’re becoming increasingly secular, the family is under attack and economically we’re experiencing woes like we’ve never known in our history it seems. So what is the connection here?” Limandri asked.
“You have to recognize that free enterprise is based on free people and … free people are based on faith,” Gingrich replied.
“The very basis of our belief and freedom is that we believe we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights. The very source of our strength is that we believe these are truths – not theories, not ideologies, not gimmicks, not political consultants, powerpoints – truths, and so there’s a core absolute overlap between free enterprise, freedom and freedom of faith. And if you don’t have freedom of faith in the end you’re not going to have free enterprise because there’s no moral force that defends and protects you.”
Okay, to sum up: there were no family with men and women before 3,000 years ago. Likewise, there would be no families with men and women without “Judeo-Christian” tradition. The fact that Japan and other non-Christian nations have lots of, you know, married couples, is irrelevant, because they wouldn’t have that if something special hadn’t happened 3,000 years ago. I frankly don’t know what happened 3,000 years ago in “Judeo-Christian” tradition that started this ball rolling, but it musta been awesome.
So what is the connection here? Well, you see, big bidness is based on big people with a revolving door of increasingly frightening looking wives, and…
No, we’ve gotten off track.
Free people are based on faith, because there have never been any democracies in the history of the world, save those which were started by Jesus, and so…
QED, if you’re a mindless wingnut. The rest of the normal population is now free to slam its collective head against the desk and wonder at the fact that this failed politician is still around, talking.

The Pagan Romans, who the Christians love to remind us persecuted early Christians, were firm believers in marriage and patriarchally based families. Indeed, non-Abrahamist peoples (i.e., Pagans) were settling down and marrying long before the Jews coalesced as a distinct people. Gingrich is an idiot, which should come as a surprise to no one given his history.
I am so sick of so-called “Christians” like Gingrich, Bachmann, Perry, and all the rest who make life hell for everyone they do not like and in general give off a tremendous stink that, unfortunately, envelops ordinary denominational Christians as well. Most of us, unlike the “born again” crowd, have been Christians nearly all our lives, and have put our faith into perspective. None of us wants to see a theocracy, and we certainly don’t want people as bat-s**t crazy as the above-named psychos running things.
This country is supposed to be about freedom for EVERYBODY, not just a select few. I feel soiled by the mere association with these lunatics.
“The concept of family being between man and woman and a second woman when the first woman gets kind of manky and a third woman when the second gets sick and the concept of all these core values that grow out of 3,000 years of Judeo-Christian tradition,” Gingrich answered.
There. All fixed.
@ Scott A–Thank You!
Biblical Truth – the ultimate oxymoron!
I get the impression Gingrich doesn’t really know what the term “secular” means. His entire statement is just nonsense; it’s a bunch of fundamentalist hot-button words strung together. “The very basis of our belief and freedom…?” Oh, and I just love the “it seems” at the end of “we’re experiencing woes like we’ve never known in our history.”
“We’re becoming increasingly secular, the family is under attack and economically we’re experiencing woes like we’ve never known in our history.”
Oh, we never experienced anything like we are experiencing now? Not unemployment, not recession, not economical disparity? Are you sure about that, Newt? We never had the Great Depression of 1929 which ended The Roaring Twenties…never the Dust Bowls of Oklahoma in the early to mid thirties? We never experienced the McCarthy Era and the Red Scare of the ’50′s when homosexuality was punishable with jail time or black listing? And we never went through the race riots of the sixties, where being BLACK got you a beating,or a good hosing, and the dogs fetched out on you? We never experienced Viet Nam in the early sixties lasting into the mid-seventies, and the defeat we suffered at the hands of the North Vietnamese?
Come on, Newt…gays and lesbians have been around for centuries! Never once have they been blamed for ANY economical woes…unless of course, you want to count Adolf Hitler blaming Jews and Gays for their problems. So if we follow your logic, Newt, should we then expect that you will lock up your own SISTER, who is an open lesbian for being a threat to your economic security?
Reading this article last night and this morning it set up this red flag in my mind. I am reminded as to how Adolph Hitler was able to implant the idea that the Jews were, somehow, responsible for Germany losing ground after World War One. He couldn’t really PROVE it was the Jews so he had to devise a way to make the German people BELIEVE that they were. Hence, during an important night in Hitler’s life, he had hired thugs to TORCH the Reichstagg(?) and make it look like it was a Jewish band of dissidents who were responsible. And, he succeeded!
There is no Reichstagg today to burn to the ground…but there is a growing economic disparity the likes we have never seen since the Great Depression. So it seems only fitting that because our economy is going into the crapper, and fast, there has to be a bogey man to blame it on. Newt isn’t stupid, he’s taking a play out of the Karl Rove book of Disinformation and Misdirection. He can’t actually come right out and say “I blame Wall Street and Bankers and other financial corporations who have steered this ship of state into an iceberg.” That would not fly over too well with the Tea Party people who he is trying to woo over.
There has to be a bogey man so scary, so frightening, so horrifying that it makes you p**s your pants at the mere THOUGHT of it. You can’t scapegoat Afro-Americans…they’ve already proven themselves. You can’t lay it on the door step of the Jewish community…well, maybe you COULD if you look at Bernie Madoff and his infamous Ponzai scheme. However, that would be too dangerous a reach.
So Newt does the next best thing…BLAME THE GAYS! Of course, who would have thunk it! All those hard working, tax paying, family raising “queers.” somehow got us all into this financial quagmire that we are in now. It was “the gays” fault that the housing industry is tanking fast, it’s all those hair dressers and florists and fashion designers(okay, I’m stereotyping here a bit to add a bit of creative licensing and sarcasm to this piece) that made us lose our credit rating with Standard and Poor. Yeah, us gay people drove the tax base for businesses up to 35% sending corporations en masse exodus overseas to avoid having to pay their fair share of taxes. We’re just that powerful, huh?
And if the people are stupid enough to take that bait hook, line, and sinker, then they deserve to get caught, fried up, and eaten up for dinner. We can bury our head in the sand and say that this will never happen in America and deny it all we want until the cows come home. However, if the people of Germany were that gullible to believe Hitler, then they are just as gullible, if not pliable like putty, in Newt Gingrich’s hand. I learned it is never best to turn your back to your opponent when he is all sugar and sweet. Because yo never know just where he’ll plunge that dagger once your back is turned.
This from a man who left his first two wives the moment they got sick.
Gingrich is an opportunist, first and foremost. If a substantial voting block started believing communism works he would be the first person in line to don a fir hat.
@Ray Sager
Good comment Ray. Hits all the bases and then some. I like!
One difference between the Germans and Americans though, If I may…we (the Germans) have learned from our history, collectively and are determined not to make the same mistakes and have not so far. Fool me once, shame on you…
Are we Americans that teachable as a society, culture?
(Note: I’m not MPD hahaha!, just both American and German.)
