This is pretty funny, even by the standards of whiny conservative rants against liberals. Herman Cain argued in a column a while back that it was the liberals who killed Jesus. Also, Jesus, who fed the poor and whatnot, was the world’s greatest conservative:
He helped the poor without one government program. He healed the sick without a government health care system. He feed the hungry without food stamps.
[...]
For three years He was unemployed, and never collected an unemployment check.
I think a lot of Christian theologians would take exception to the idea that Jesus was, ahem, “unemployed.”
The liberal court found Him guilty of false offences and sentenced Him to death, all because He changed the hearts and minds of men with an army of 12.
Great, the liberals killed Jesus. Wait, being sentenced to death on false charges is a “liberal” thing? Rick Perry would beg to differ, I think!

Unemployed? Wasn’t he a carpenter?
“Liberal” is Evangelical Christian speak for JEW and this is the old blood libel Jews killed Jesus propaganda. Herman Cain has Stockholm syndrome, a descendant of slaves who believes the religion that slave owners used to justify enslaving his relatives.
Unfortunately, we are unable to make hundreds of fish appear out of thin air or heal the sick by simply creating friction by means of our hands and placing our benevolent hands on the sick to heal them.
So…I guess Government programs will have to play that role.
By their very own belief system, what higher government program is there than the divine?
“all because He changed the hearts and minds of men with an army of 12.”
I guess that makes Judas a stealth liberal.
Also, since I’ve actually read the Bible (something no Godbotherer ever does, apparently) it is really inappropriate to describe the disciples as an army.
If nothing else, that bit where the Roman soldiers and so on come for Jesus, and the only resistance from the “troops” is Simon Peter cutting off one dude’s ear should be a little hint that JC & Crew weren’t the most war-like of dudes.
But then the Godbotherers would love to trade Jesus for a Rambo-Zeus hybrid. That whole peace and humility and not judging thing really bugs them.
“He helped the poor without one government program. “He healed the sick without a government health care system. He feed the hungry without food stamps.”
Yes, and apparently he did this using magic, which is I guess how people like Herman Cain prefer we help the poor.
So let’s not put our faith in a powerful government, but rather in an even more powerful but invisible God who appearently can eradicate poverty whenever he wants, but chooses not to.
F**k you Herman Cain.
Scooz meh, but Jesus was a liberal-commie-hippie-socialist-jew. How modern Christers are getting Republican Jesus (GAWD! GUNZ! f**k THE POOR!) out of that, I will nebber know.
Typical conservative edict; Spin everything backwards. Thk God none of em will make president.
And this guy is the current front runner?
*Shudder*
Words defy me. I am simply dumbfounded by Mr. Cain’s stupidity. Of course Jesus didn’t use government programs to heal the sick and feed the poor. They did not exist back then in Israel and He was advocating for them! “That which to you do the least of my brothers, so you do unto me” (or something like that). Also, did Mr. Cain just skip over the part in the Bible where Jesus said to “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s but to render unto God what is God’s?” Sounds like an advocate for responsible taxation to me.
A “Liberal Court” convicted him? Obviously, Mr. Cain lives in Bizarro World or something. Aside from the fact that the terms “liberal” and “conservative” as we know them today did not exist 2000 years ago and really cannot be applied to events in Jesus’ life, Mr. Cain should remember that the Pharisees were the established ruling class of Ancient Israel. They were trying maintain or “conserve” their power and they saw Jesus as a threat to that power with His “liberal” message of love, tolerance, acceptance, charity, etc. If anything, it was the “conservative” court that tried, sentenced, and executed the “liberal” Jesus.
As a Christian, Mr. Cain should be ashamed of himself for his blasphemy. I pray the God has mercy on his soul.
I agree, Nick. My first thought was that such programs didn’t exist in ancient Palestine. Life was a cruel thing and you either made it or didn’t. Jesus was killed primarily because he was upsetting the status quo that the Jewish leaders had with the Romans. Any whiff of trouble/insurrection would be a signal to clamp down even harder and snuff it out before it grew. The Jewish leaders wanted Jesus dead but needed Pilate’s OK to do it. Even he tried to avoid that, but ultimately couldn’t. Besides, “liberal” and “conservative” existed then? There were no political parties like today. Mr. Cain is so nonsensical. AND I’m sure his audience loved it and drank it up like fools dying of thirst. How clever these politicians are – they insult the intelligence of their audience and get votes for doing so.
Just what could be more politically conservative than a “court”– really, an adminsitrative trial by a governor– that represented the power and might of ancient rome?
stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.
Jesus was conservative=cain is Scandinavian.
