Does a Christian God love unconditionally?
Of course — until Christian Rightists elevate themselves above God and say otherwise.
In her book, “Somone’s Son,” Brenda Rhodes recalls how she corrected her son (who was dying from HIV/AIDS) when he asserted belief in a God of unconditional love.
Rhodes tells the American Family Association’s propaganda arm, OneNewsNow:
“He would get of the opinion that God loves us unconditionally no matter what we do,” Rhodes explains. “I told him that that is true but when we live outside of his bounds and we do things that we know we should not then it breaks the relationship with God and we have consequences that we have to live with, and even die with sometimes.”
Rhodes should have titled her book, “God Loves Me, Not Thee” — the tale of “bounds” set by a control-freak mother who vainly claims to be God’s spokeswoman.
Rhodes’ book advises other parents how to be stubbornly vain and prejudiced toward gay sons, how to equate sexual orientation with drug addiction, and how to mangle the Bible for perceived personal advantage and control.
Poor guy, not only dying of AIDS, but with that nasty b***h of a mother at his side! Absolutely disgusting. I guess my “family values” really aren’t “traditional” after all, as I’ve never told dying relatives God hates them. At this point, it should be glaringly obvious that it’s not concern for “the family” or their children that motivates right-wingers.
Where do these “Christian” people get off trying to tell others what GOD does and does not ‘like’ or ‘hates’. People, read the FIRST commandment, “Thou shalt have no other GOD before me”, yet they worship a hateful, vengeful god. GOD IS LOVE!!! That was the message from Christ and many other profits. Man has perverted this message and if you are taught that god hates then run, not walk away because GOD does not have human emotions. HE loves ALL his creations, not just those some preachers decide are his chosen.
Phelpsian. Even more incomprehensible that she wrote this about her own son. What a horrible woman. There aren’t enough pejoratives in the English language to express my disgust with the complete and utter contempt exhibited by this individual.

Oh but don’t you dare try to blame them for the fact that forty percent of America’s homeless youth identifies as LGBT. That’s a violation of their religious freedom.
They seem to live on the planet victim and blinders. So sad, as the atmosphere from that planet sucks the love out of them
Unbelievable! All I can say is that as the knuckleheads get more bizarre, more people are seeing them as they are–crazy.
I’m sure you’ve all heard that dear old Pat Robertson said God freed the wild animals in Ohio to bite gay people! And HE’S still running loose.

Jerry – what is the source for the Roberston comment? the only one I can find is the Borowitz report, and dozens of sites quoting the Borowitz report. Couldn’t find anything on YouTube. Are you sure it’s not parody?

About the same level of nuts as Miss Thing Rhodes graduated from the Fundy Halls of Macademia where judgment and cruelty are repackaged and sold as unconditional love and compassion.
