Bob, the Catholic Church does not teach that Satan is "...the original source of all sin", although, it would appear that Avila would be under that impression. Wayne does well to suggest that Avila seems just as rabid as some of the fundies, to the Catholic Church's chagrin, to be sure. I would guess its very difficult, nowadays, to convince the populace of the customary double-speak when you have these upstarts among the laity making a mess of things. I'm sure life was so much easier in the dark ages when the laity were uneducated, illiterate simpletons willing to be spoon-fed what to believe (and THAT number, ladies and gentlemen, continues to exist in some measure within the church, even to this day). As Wayne has said, in so many words: The Catholic Church would do better to clean up its own mess within its priestly ranks before daring to tell the rest of the world how to live.

While perhaps one can disagree with Avila's statement, it is flawless in its logical and theological consistency. Following their own belief, it is the US Conf. of Catholic Bishops that is in error. If one truly believes homosexuality is a sin, as both Avila and the US Conf. of Catholic Bishops believe, and one also believes Satan is the original source of all sin, again, as both the the Catholic church teaches and Avila would seem to believe, then Satan is ipso facto the source of homosexuality. Avila is merely being consistent. It is the US Catholic bishops who are in error, even as to their own theology.

I can not understand the issue with these churches. They say they are doing God's work! I sometimes wonder which God were they speaking if? How does the church help? Have they helped you? And is the church is so helpful why are there people still starving in the US but yet the Church is worth BILLIONS of $$$! How is the church helping - other than taking $ from people who cannot afford to give, housing pedophiles, and keeping women subservient? So, please explain to me how that helps ANYONE? How much did your church give in actual dollars and cents to people - not in services - but in actual $, directly to people.

Yep, the Catholic church is totally more trust-worthy with young children than gay families. Yup, no sexual abuse/coverup scandals there at all.

"The ironic part of the Catholic Church’s recent posturing is that it is a morally challenged institution that has yet to recover from multiple and ongoing pedophile priest scandals."

Wayne, it seems to me that the Catholic Church hierarchy is trying to 'wag the dog', trying to divert everyone's attention from the priesthood scandal by screaming 'Hey everyone, look over here at all the perverted Gays trying to destroy the moral fiber of this country!'

Randall Terry, Pat Buchanan and the Koch Brothers are some other unappetizing public faces of the Vatican.
You know, why does the United States have diplomatic ties with the Vatican? Seems like it is showing favoritism to one religion over another. Our budget might be helped by not having an ambassador there as well. Ireland has it right!
