Another woman has emerged accusing Herman Cain of sexual misconduct. This time, though, Cain stands accused of a thirteen-year-long consensual affair by a Georgia businesswoman. Details are emerging — an Atlanta FOX affiliate appears to be releasing the exclusive story this evening — but today’s revelations are also notable because although Cain officially denied the affair, Cain’s lawyer issued a statement to the station that didn’t, instead opting for the it’s-none-of-your-business argument:
“Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault – which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.
Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public’s right to know and the media’s right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one’s bedroom door. [emphasis added]
Mr. Cain has alerted his wife to this new accusation and discussed it with her. He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media.”
So apparently, on Herman Cain’s planet, it’s completely unacceptable to discuss his alleged consensual heterosexual extramarital affairs. However, when it comes to other people’s sexual orientations and the sexual expressions of said orientations, they’re fair game. In fact, Mr. Cain thinks himself such an expert on sexual orientation that he wants people to believe, against ALL evidence, that sexual orientation is a choice.
But seriously — pay no attention to this self-appointed moral scold’s own alleged sexual shenanigans. Herman Cain appears to have a particularly egregious double standard in place: he wants the right to insert himself into the bedrooms of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons all across America, while simultaneously asserting that the media needs to keep the hell out of his bedroom. And remember: he’s for traditional marriage.
Hypocrite.

So private, alleged consensual conduct by adults is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public then why the hell was Bill Clinton hounded about it?
I’m just surprised a woman finally said YES to Herman Cain’s advances. The string of rejections was so long I was almost feeling bad for him.
Pattern: grope, rejection, threaten lawsuit, settlement, denial
He finally broke the cycle!
LMFGAO!!!
What’s that sound? Oh, it’s Herman Cain’s campaign imploding as the wails of the sheep echo in the background.
The sheer gall of the lawyer’s statements on behalf of this hypocritical poltroon reduced me to a curse-laden rant on Facebook. Cain can go f*** himself.
So we’re supposed to stay out of his bedroom but when we tell people to stay out of ours we’re asking for “special rights”. I’ve long given up on asking if these people listen to themselves speak.
For the “family values ” party this is almost hysterical! He doesn’t believe my partner and I of a monogamous twenty years together should be permitted to legally marry but it’s perfectly fine to cheat on your wife with numerous women? That’s hypocrisy ..
@JamesStone, that’s not hypocrisy, that’s the religious right. When Republican Jesus (the lord and savior of absurd bigots with generally bad hair) has endorsed you, all your hypocrisies become Jesus-fied and specially approved.
its funny when the GOP get in deep s**t about their private sexual life…thats bad for the public to know but when a glbt person they can discrimanate…mmm something is majorly wrong here! the GOP are hypacrates!
I get the point of this post and I agree that the hypocrisy is just too much. The only issue I have is with the whole “bedroom” analogy. Again, I know it’s used figuratively in a sense, but my lesbian relationship with my partner of 10 years has so much more to do with our overall lives together and not just what happens in our bedroom. It’s that type of language that gives the NOM folks, Santorum, Bachmann (and Associates), Cain and others the focus of gay people having sex, sex and more sex as opposed to us raising children together, planning for retirement together, and providing social security benefits for our partners… just like Newt can do no matter how many times he’s been married!
Carol, I couldn’t agree with you more. I have the exact same problem with the “you stay out of my bedroom” argument. It falsely conflates sexual orientation with sexual acts, which as you’ve pointed out (and I mentioned in the article as well) are merely the sexual expression of a person’s orientation. That false conflation, even when made by equality supporters, inadvertently reinforces right-wing talking points about LGBT people and our relationships. My marriage with my husband, just like your relationship with your partner, is about so much more than just sex. Yes, it is a sexual relationship (duh!), but any relationship that stops there is doomed to fail in the long term.
So as I said, I couldn’t agree more with your comment. That’s why I tried to point out Cain’s hypocrisy without appearing to fully endorse the “stay out of my bedroom” argument.
This man is clearly a narcissist and a congenital
liar as well as a hypocrite.
I appreciate you sharing this blog article.Much thanks again. Really Cool.
