Congratulations to personal financial consultant Wendelinus Linus Hamutenya, who was just crowned Mr. Gay Namibia. Namibia is not the ideal place to be gay, but it does have vocal LGBTI activism and according to Mamba Online is the only country in Africa besides South Africa even to hold a Mr. Gay competition. Judging by his Facebook page, Hamutenya seems like a lovely person and deserving of the honor. He will go on to compete in Mr. Gay World next April in South Africa.
The contest itself is worth learning about–it was started in 2008 by an Australian man who wanted to “create a positive environment for gay men to become leaders of each of their nations, helping to create this global network of support to help combat homophobia.” Any American boys care to enter? It’s not too late to send in a video for the January US competition!
