Grrrr.
Dan Blatt of Gay Patriot, in the comments section of his piece reporting on the Washington legislature passing a marriage equality bill:
I voted against Prop 22 in 2000 and Prop 8 in 2008. And regret that they are valid.
As long as they don’t prevent the couples from living together, they pass constitutional muster.
If that statement is true, so are the following:
1. As long as they don’t prevent interracial couples from living together, it’s okay to ban their marriages.
2. As long as they let black people ride on buses, it’s okay for them to be forced to ride in the back.
3. As long as they provide black people a water fountain, it’s okay to ban them from using the white people water fountain…
Just sayin’. How there is a certain segment of the population, even among the gay community [?!?!?!] that still does not understand that people’s fundamental RIGHTS should not, ultimately, be handed out or denied by simple majority votes, is beyond me. That third branch of government was sorta created for a reason…
Granted, it’s fine when legislatures and voters do support our equality, but ideally, things like this should not be left up to the whims of the majority.
[Duh.]

Ahhhh…I was waiting for the sell-outs who hide behind the name of “Gay Conservative” show their ugly faces….Next Mr. Blatt will be saying that it’s actually Obama who’s oppressing the LGBT community and not the Republicans. I’m sure he wholeheartedly believes this and that the GOP has every intention of eventually supporting our basic civil rights. This, however, will only happen if we learn to keep our mouths shut, our eyes down-cast, and to say “Yes, Master” on cue.
If it’s legal for Jews to own homes then zoning laws and neighborhood covenants that exclude Jews pass constitutional muster. As long as it’s legal for Catholics to worship in their own churches discriminating against them in jobs and housing passes constitutional muster.
And so on. We’ve been there, and it didn’t work, but somehow to a certain segment of the population it always seems like those were the golden times. I wonder why. Yes, yes…this nation took a turn for the worse when it started extending the promise of liberty and justice to everyone.
The summation of their entire psychology: If I hate myself in the same way that you hate me, will you like me then?
Also popular among libertarians: it’s ok to deny people their rights as long it’s a state doing it (as opposed to the feds)

That was profound, Mark. You’ve really enlightened me as to what drives these people.
Nick K. wrote,
Unless I’ve been misreading gaypatriot.net, Daniel Blatt has been doing very thing for a while now.
Its ironic that these people do not realize the similarities of oppression and propaganda that they use today as opposed to 30 years ago against race.
Donny D. – You are probably right. However, I make it a habit of not reading gaypatriot.net so I will have to defer to you on that point.
Daniel Blatt is not the only gay conservative out there peddling that line of BS either. What’s sad is that rather than trying to work within the GOP to change things for LGBT’s, these Kool-Aid drinking, boot-lickers are making excuses for the Republican leadership and sucking up to them. Mr. Blatt and his ilk are more loyal to their pocketbooks than the LGBT community or society at large. That’s truly disgusting.
At least the Log Cabin Republicans are trying to change minds and attitudes within the party. That I can at least respect.
Some things deserve to be repeated. Mark said:

My moderate to conservative leaning, translesbian household does not agree with GayPatriot or GOProud with their stupidity and distance ourselves from such blind rhetoric.
Rights are rights and the people do not vote on them. Or that was how it was supposed to be. Thank the gods for the courts!
