Sen. Rick Santorum told us that marriage equality would lead to man on dog action and whatever version of musical marriage popped into his perverted imagination. Well, today a man married a gigantic bacon cheeseburger, at least in a Jack-in-the-Box television commercial. (One could do much worse than marrying bacon — plus by saying “I Do”, you do get fries and a drink)

Is this ad offensive considering the idiotic warnings by fundamentalists that same-sex couples marrying would lead to chaos and possibly the apocalypse? Is this ad insensitive or simply cute, with no political connotations or connections? And does it make a difference if the man married a male or female bacon cheeseburger?
I’d be curious what our readers have to say about this ad.

If the man is from a Jewish family, and he married a bacon cheeseburger, then we need more information. Was the man kosher and religious, or did he not give a f**k? If he was kosher, did the bacon cheeseburger convert for the wedding? Or did the Jewish man — if he was kosher — convert to baconism? They do say that the bride is well-bread.
I think its a great ad and quite funny…the ending just killed me!!! lmfao I wonder though if Jack Off in the Box is making a polictical statement and if they are what kind of statement are they making? I still like the ad
I used to eat their ham and cheese sandwich. I think they got rid of it. I was a bit turned off in the 1980′s when they got caught putting horse meat in the hamburgers. But, I’m sure the bacon is all pork.
The last line (‘you may now eat the bride’) was startling, but so apropos! Thought it was funny :D My only negative emotion was being jealous of the tiara ;-))
But eating the bride? Doesn’t that make it some kind of sodomitical act?
On the other hand, I didn’t eat red meat for years and years, with one exception.
Mmmmmmmm. Bacon. The candy of meat
I’ve always found Jack-in-the-Box ads rather odd, an attempt at controversial humour that just misses the mark. They also seem tinged with misogyny, something, I believe, that is the result of market research (Jack-in-the-Box is aimed at post-adolescent males) rather than the creative output of talented writers.
Jack in the Box commercials are always insanely weird. Like their commercial writers are always on drugs when they come up with them or something.
JitB advertisements are ALWAYS weird — and that’s what I love about them. Now, if only I liked fast food…
It would be offensive only if he ate that huge thing.
I really don’t find it offensive, if anything, it’s a statement to the likes of Frothy how insane their idea of the “slippery slope from gay marriage” they so love to talk about.
When I was a kid, there was a saying “If you like it so much, why don’t you marry it?” it had nothing to do with gay marriage or politics, it was poking fun at our friends’ obsessions with inanimate objects and the supposed life-long commitment of marriage. When I saw the commercial, this is what I saw – he liked it so much he married it. Not everything is about us.
I do find this ad campaign offensive. I am a 22 year old gay man, who has been fighting for my rights, including the right to marry for many years. I have been fighting against the farfetched accusations that if same sex marriage is allowed, so will bestiality and so on. Marriage is obviously something that we hold near and dear to our hearts, as we are fighting so much for it. I don’t think that it is appropriate for JitB to make a mockery out of something that the entire nation is looking at. I am boycotting Jack until an apology is rendered, and the campaign is pulled.
I find this ad so offensive.
In a world where I can not marry the person I love, they can make an ad where a man can marry a piece of bacon! Really? Are you kidding me? And then the tag line at the end “You may eat the bride!”, what’s that?
So much for the “sanctity of marriage”!
This ad is inappropriate while the fight for marriage equality is in full swing. At best it’s tone deaf, at worst JitB is siding with the bigots. The day after this ad first aired, I told JitB directly on their site that I will be boycotting JitB as long as this ad campaign runs. They still have not responded.
Not sure whether to puke considering my aversion to fast food… or to laugh…. mental images from Ilove pigs comments making it closer to the puking side though.
Hey, thanks for the blog post.Really thank you!
The only thing offensive about this commercial is how stupid and stupefying it is. The sandwich looks disgusting too. I can’t believe the number of homos who get all butt hurt about it either. If you like your sense of offense, why don’t you marry it? Marriage sucks.
