Perry 300x168 New Show For Smart People at MSNBCMSNBC announced an exciting new show with Tulane professor Melissa Harris-Perry that will air on Saturdays and Sundays from 10-noon. According to a profile in today’s New York Times, Ms. Harris-Perry will be the only tenured professor in the United States — and one of a very small number of African-American women — who serves as a cable news host. She is also in good hands with producer Shanta Covington, who previously worked at CNN.

The Times reports:

“Today, our audience thrives on being smart,” said Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC. He said he used to worry about outsmarting the audience, but does not anymore, because MSNBC has moved from being “all things to all people” to being “a much more specific channel.” That change was propelled by the popularity of its left-leaning programs.

Set your alarm on the weekend. This sounds like a very interesting show and I look forward to tuning in.
