Perfect! Liberal/progressive Christians have made these same points repeatedly; but of course the MSM pretty much only covers the crazies on the right.

What Fugelsang said about Jesus and Elvis has become one of my favourite sayings. It’s downright bizarre how many central tenets of Christ’s ideology have been rejected by the Religious Right, especially when it comes to their attitudes about the poor. Jesus was all about helping the poor. But now they’re lowly leeches who are threatening to take money from the virtuous job creators. What the hell?
Check out “What Do You Do with a Chocolate Jesus?” on Amazon.com. It’s right along Fugelsang’s line of thought–using Bible material and history, and humor, to deconstruct fundamentalism. Joseph and Mary give it two thumbs up.
