Last night I appeared on Current TV’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann to discuss New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s opposition to marriage equality. We also discussed President Barack Obama’s position on the issue. It was an honor to appear on the show because I’ve always enjoyed Keith Olbermann and credit him with turning MSNBC in to a progressive brand. The host has also been a terrific defender of LGBT equality. He’s still doing amazing work at Current TV.

who is that seemingly level-headed guy that comes in the middle at around 3:10?
I can see why Christie is trying to appeal to the Republicans so much, so why didn’t he run for president like they all wanted him to?
@ Bonnie- He’s biding his time for 2016.
This just in: Chris Christie is big bully.
“An error occurred, please try again later”
So I didn’t see the video! I’ll try later.
Keep calling them out Wayne – as always, GREAT JOB!!
Saw it second try! Christie is nothing less than a stupid arrogant b*****d. I have to wonder at the mentality of the people who support this pompous fool.
More than anything else, Christie is a bully.
He as much as said so, referring to his having been a prosecutor and he wouldn’t be cross-examined, and that if the other guy went against him, “you’re gonna lose”.
And like all bullies, he’s a coward.
The thing in 2008 though, was that Obama kinda hedged his bets originally though, not supporting a national marriage amendment, because he had the potential to alienate too many voters. I think we’ll see that again this year. I mean, it’s not like the GLBT faction is NOT going to vote for him right? So he could either wait until after he presumably gets re-elected and give the green light on the whole marriage thing, OR… if he really isn’t actually convicted about the marriage topic, he could just say ‘screw it’ and leave you folks by the wayside. Either way, you would have helped him get re-elected and it’s not like he has any other office to hold, or any other constituents to please after being the president. Since he hasn’t actually stated his opinion, he could be leading GLBT people and hardcore liberals on, just for his own gains. You never know.
I’m actually agreeing with Richard on this one. Everyone likes to make assumptions about what a pol will do if x contingencies happen. We’ve seen the talk about “evolving,” but we don’t really know. While I would love to see President Obama do the right thing and throw his weight behind ENDA & RFMA, I don’t know for sure. We may be left rather high and dry, even for another 4 years. He may just find it to be too risky or damaging to either himself or the Democratic Party at this time.
I wish that weren’t the case, but as a moderate Dem & an underemployed trans woman (with a moderate Republican wife) I can’t say for sure. And that alone is why I wish there were other options on the table. Unfortunately, from my point of view, they just get crazier from where we’re at now. Lesser of Two Evils and all that.
Perhaps it is time to tell those politicians who are still evolving on our issues that our support in the way of votes and/or cash contributions to their campaigns is still evolving as well.
