Joe grabbed these screen caps from pollster Nate Silver. Here is your Santorum-voting bloc:
It’s kind of unbelievable, yes, but when you consider that we deal with a constant contingent [which is shrinking, yes, but grows louder every year to compensate] of people who are primarily concerned about denying gay people rights and about controlling women’s sex lives, 28% sounds about right. The fact that we’re actually having an argument about contraception in the year 2012 should resolve any questions over whether there is a significant portion of the electorate that simply doesn’t have any respect for the way this secular nation works.

Wingnuts are weird.

About 25-30% of this country are dyed in the wool wingnuts. That’s the same percentage who thought Bush was ‘doing a good job’ near the end of his last term in office and any time there is a poll about some extreme right wing issue, you’ll almost always see a ‘support’ rate of between 25-30%.
“Don’t see the need for” and “don’t know that it’s a part of the 1st Amendment” are not the same thing.
About the contraception debate, not being a person of faith but one who still sides with Republicans, you can still legislate based on the morality of an issue. It’s not necessarily a religious issue. People from every walk of life believe that lying, cheating, stealing, etc are wrong, and they don’t need a religious basis to believe so.
28% of Americans are idiots who think that should we have no Separation of Church and State, it would be their religion chosen to be the State Religion.
