If Rick Santorum wins tonight, Michigan may forever be known as the place the Republican Party went to die – a political Waterloo.
A Santorum win, in a *must* win state for Romney, would be the clearest sign to date that the conservative coalition within the Republican Party is coming apart at the seams.
Was already happening. Look at who’s voting in Republican primaries. For the most part, it’s bitter, old, white, xenophobic bigots. They are choosing the candidate they deserve.
Much has been made about the proverbial three-legged stool of the GOP: social conservatives, fiscal conservatives and foreign policy conservatives. A Santorum nomination effectively turns the party into a one-legged stool. Make no mistake about it, if Santorum is the nominee, something that was unthinkable just a few weeks ago, this election will become a referendum on the least popular and most-outdated parts of the conservative movement: opposition to birth control, hostility to gay people, etc.
I’m really confused as to which Republicans are being left out in this primary process. The teabaggers are effectively a dead movement, having been absorbed back into their erstwhile resentment zones in the Religious Right and on the Free Republic forums, or perhaps they just got tired. The “foreign-policy” conservatives have pretty much had it handed to them when it comes to, er, foreign policy — I mean, we’ve been fearmongering about Iran for how many decades, and, please, who killed bin Laden again? And the economy is, ahem, recovering.
Anyway, that’s not the point. Pass the popcorn.
PLEASE let santorum win. I just read a headline “Santorum comes out in the end after an alabama three way” I will have enough comic material for years. Not to mention the s**t that comes out of this mans mouth would make even the most staunch republican scream WTF!?!?! The chaos that would ensue would ensure popcorn sales for the next decade. PLEASE!!!
People like Chris Barron are responsible for the rise of Santorum and Bachmann.
Every time a responsible group like Truth Wins Out pointed out exactly what he was saying — he would throw a tantrum, serve as an apologist, and attack us as liberals.
By doing so, GOPROUD failed in its role to serve as an effective watchdog for the Republican Party. It failed to protect the conservative brand from the crazies and dismissed dire warnings that the GOP was being hijacked by extremists.
What people like Chris did was try to fit in — and they wanted to be accepted so much that they overlooked the obvious disaster in the making that we kept spotlighting.
Now, it is time the pay the piper. GOPROUD is powerless and the Religious Right is synonymous with the conservative movement.
Don’t say we haven’t been warning you, Chris. If you would have taken five seconds to stop deriding us as “liberals” you would have seen how right we were.

W held weekly teleconferences with Evangelicals like Ted Haggard, who told him that the Bible allows pre-emptive wars. W also appeared on TV, urging support for a bigot amendment against equality to the Constitution. These things aren’t “fringe;” they are what Rethuglturds are all about.
Barron always saw GOProud as an extension to the Tea Party. He is not the brightest bulb in life’s chandelier and failed to realize that the baggers were right wing Christians for the most part.
After all, this is the schmuck who paid Ann Coulter to insult his group. Gay Republican” has become an oxymoron. The two things that Barron likes most are his mirror and ink. Intellectual honesty is comparatively irrelevant.
Decades ago Barry Goldwater warned Republicans what would happen if the Religious Right would grab ahold of the party; he was right — its utter destruction. Too bad, for I like many Republican economic views, and so I’ve been going among them and repeating: it’s the economy, not sissy smooching. But alas, many seem to be quite sure that gay folks are the cause of it all, whatever their complaint is. Of course, with a Socialist Democratic left bankrupting the nation, marriage for gays or anyone is not going to make much of a difference. And our national bankruptcy might well destroy the Democratic Party too. Which leaves teh Libertarians as the only party on all 50 state ballots. Hmm, now that would be sweet, economic and social liberty, all in one party.
Of course, with a Socialist Democratic left bankrupting the nation…
Here’s where you need to do a little research. The conservative, free-market republicans were the ones bankrupting our nation, starting with Reagan deficits, continuing on through Bush 1 deficits, and completing the trifecta with Bush 2 unpaid wars AND deficits.
Clinton got a handle on it despite the republican mostly congress, and bush 2 utterly destroyed it. i may not be remembering this properly, but those three republicans incurred more debt than the entire amount of US debt NOT incurred by those three– all with the help of the republican congress.
Obama’s spending was not pleasing, but probably saved our economy and the world’s. It remains to be seen whether he starts a deficit reduction plan and pahyi ng down thre national debt.

i have no objection to political beliefs different from mine. I do have an objection to sloppy thinking, sloppy labelling, and a misappropriation of what most people would call facts.
We pause a moment for a vocabulary lesson, courtesy of the pundits who have redefined our public discourse.
“Fiscal conservative”: Someone who advocates borrowing trillions from future Americans and foreign lenders (China) in order to subsidize today’s business leaders. Someone who opposes adequate taxation, full stop. Someone who opposes reductions in the neosocialist military industrial complex.
“Foreign policy conservative”: Someone who advocates borrowing trillions from China and Saudi Arabia in order to smite little nations like Iran and North Korea — and in order to build intercontinental weapon systems that are aimed at our lenders.
“Social conservative”: Someone who advocates against social cohesion and community health by mobilizing one’s clan to defame and disable other clans within said society. Social conservatives also promote policies that, despite their intent, harm families and threaten life.
“Liberal”: Kinder and gentler conservative.
“Libertarian”: Someone who sacrifices individual liberty for the benefit of corporate liberty.
“Socialist” and “fascist”: Meaningless insults.
