A lot of public attention and criticism has been directed at Rev. Marcel Guarnizo, the Washington, D.C.-area priest who denied the Eucharist to a family member and bailed out in the middle of a deceased woman’s funeral last weekend. Naturally, folks are curious to know Fr. Marcel’s side of the story.
Washington Post blogger Mike Rosenwald sought out Guarnizo, in order to hear him out.
I wondered how old Guarnizo is. I wondered if he was a nice guy. I wondered whether he was a rigid man, or a forgiving one.
Unfortunately, Guarnizo isn’t talking.
Until Guarnizo comments, this is what the public has seen in the past: A hardline public figure who defames a doctor who performs abortions and, Rosenwald observes, “compares the doctor and the act of abortion to the crimes and criminals of Nazi Germany during the Holocaust.” Watch, and compare to what Jesus would do:
Methinks we won’t be hearing an apology from Guarnizo to the bereaved family and other funeralgoers anytime soon.

@Aulton. I’ve had enough. PEACE. You can thank the kind Jessica from the UK. It’s just that liberals/atheists bashing the Roman Catholic Church bring out the worst in me. Not all priests are pedophiles. The Church does more for the poor and sick around the world than any other organization. As for Ms. Barbara Johnson, don’t believe everything she says. This priest has provided his side of the story and can be found on the Huffington Post site. I am inclined to believe him over her. It seems she has not told the whole story along with not telling the truth. Once again, PEACE.
Steve, I believe Barbara Johnson. You, sir, are a liar. Can provide any evidence that she should not believed? Or maybe you are just hoping if you repeat a lie often enough, people will confuse it with the truth.
You simply are not a serious person who has something intelligent to say. Now, you might think you are making legitimate points. But you are rather pointless and just humiliating yourself.
I just feel bad for your ilk, but I love you because you reflect the inanity of your cause.
The priests who aren’t doing the actual molesting are enabling the molesters by not turning them in and letting the law deal with them. For you to besmirch the reputation of an innocent woman to defend this organization is unforgivable, and speaks volumes of your lack of character. Your non-apology is therefore unacceptable. The few instances of charity do not excuse the injustice they have committed, and still commit to this day. They have let the limit of said charity be known, by shutting down adoption services in IL because they did not want to play by the rules there. They also defunded a homeless ministry due to the director supporting marriage equality and being pro-choice. Charity with strings attached is not charity.
Charity? Hey isn’t that socialist or something? Doesn’t that lead to entitlement? Oh not when the Church chooses to do it I guess.
Steve,
You ask for us to “respect” you and spew that kind of hateful crap? Seriously, we think you’re an annoying troll. Please lock yourself in an echo chamber. Also, please, as someone who actually takes psych meds, learn how to refer to mental illness in a less insulting way.
@Wayne. No, you are the liar. This site obviously does not give the priest’s side of the story, AKA the truth. Try doing some research like I did when I heard about this. Here, let me help you. Try going to wjla.com or cnsnews.com. I’m sure there are plenty of other sites out there too. Are you really this clueless or are you being disingenuous, pretending not to know the facts. My guess is when you heard this story you said priest bad, bad, lesbian, good, good. Right? And don’t feel bad for me. I am married to the same woman for almost 18 years now and have a very intelligent 16 y.o. son. I am blessed. Also, I served my country for over 20 years as an officer in the USAF. So, feel bad for yourself and your ilk. I try to make peace, but with some liberals it’s just no use. Unlike Jessica form the UK, you give liberals a bad name and should feel ashamed for calling me a liar. Now go seek the facts and the truth.
@Aulton. So, according to you, Roman Catholic priests are either molesters or enablers, right? Brilliant. Do you engage in such hyperbole all the time or just when it comes to the Church that Jesus founded and that you obviously hate. To believe this woman without obtaining the truth tells a lot about your character. And it’s not good. See my post to Wayne, another mean-spirited liberal, on where to find the truth…the priest’s side of the story. We’ll see if the truth does win out with you two buddies. I somehow doubt it though. After all, all priests lie and all lesbians tell the truth according to you guys.
I try to be nice to you and make peace, but you slap me in the face. You should feel ashamed. It was not all, but some of you liberals on this site that attacked the priest, the Church, my faith, and therefore me first. I only responded to the attacks, and I admit, not in a proper manner. My sincerest apology.
@Jessica. Looks like two people from opposite ends of the political spectrum can have something in common, a love of football. That’s cool your dad use to play. Man City? Great team with lots of great players like Richards, Hart, Aguero, Silva, etc. That Balotelli is kind of unstable though. Some of the liberals on here would probably say the same about me. :). I do think Mancini needs to play Dzeko more. He is a great goalscorer. What do you think?
Being of German descent, I have been a Bayern Munich fan since the late 70s. However, when Man City plays Man U I root for City. I don’t care much for Wayne Rooney.
I saw today on ESPN that Fabrice Muamba is doing better. I was happy to hear that.
Take care.
@Steve, Jesus did not found the Catholic Church, nor any church. His followers created Christianity, several sorts even. For the first three hundred years or so, Christianity was illegal in Rome; Christians tortured and killed. In 315 Emperor Constantine adopted Christianity, then high tailed immediately it to his new city, Constantinople. The remnants in Rome agitated for power, and won it, creating two empires, East & West. Other Christians around the Mediterranean repeatedly questioned Rome’s supremacy. The Western Roman empire was effectively destroyed in 415. Then the Bishop of Rome created the Catholic Church in the 450s, and quickly fabricated a history. In the 600s the Bishop of Rome finally established the “True” Bible and threw the rest out as Apocrypha. The term “Pope” appeared at this time. The schisms were repeated and often for the next oh, 1700 years, until today, resulting in the deaths of millions who did not follow the Pope in Rome, while Jesus himself wasn’t really into killing anyone.
I point this out now: I do not attack your faith, I attack your facts.
Steve? Are you attempting to appear intelligent by inventing words? I mean, ‘liberetard’? ‘Atheistard’? Really? Not only can’t you speak English, but you don’t know history. Were you homeschooled? That would explain a lot. We in New England are overjoyed that you & your ilk are safely corralled in Texas. I really do not care what the women of Texas look like. They’re just cowboy boots & big hair, aren’t they? I got news for you, buddy. The men up here are real men – gay bears in particular from all around New England. Say, did you see the video by little Nate on this site? He’s from Tennessee but he represents Texas denizens as well. You are all the same, I guess. Too bad.
@Devin. Gay bears? How cute. Nope, not homeschooled. Yep, I’ll stay in Texas. You can have liberal New England.
@Jim. Yes, Jesus founded the Catholic Church. It was not called Catholic at that time, but it was the universal Church. Try reading the Bible where Jesus is telling Peter he is the rock. Also, try reading the writings of the early Church fathers like Saint Clement of Rome, Saint Ignatius of Antioch, Saint Justin Martyr, Saint Irenaeus of Lyons, etc. They were very much “Catholic”. You might learn something. I’ll take 2,000 years of Church history and the teachings of the Magisterium over whatever you say, thank you very much. Thought I was one of those Catholics that didn’t know his faith didn’t you?
Steve:
Could you be any more pathetic? Do you know anything about New England?
I have lived in Texas. There are very nice areas in the state, particularly Austin and Corpus Christi. To write off entire regions of the nation — particularly scenic ones like New England — shows what a narrow-minded tool and a total slave to ideology you really are.
Steve, you don’t know your faith at all. What you do is cherry pick bits of pieces to fit your bigoted narrative and make you feel better about yourself. I think the only one on this site impressed by your so-called “knowledge” is you.
@Wayne. Just keep on being your mean and nasty self calling me pathetic and a tool. And a slave to my ideology? Typical liberal hypocrisy. Nothing new there. For your information, I have been to several New England states during my Air Force career. I did enjoy the scenery and the older architecture. Being a conservative Christian I feel more at home in Texas. I’m sure you feel the same in New England for your reasons. I am a UT Longhorn fan, but you know what they say about Austin…Keep Austin weird. As for Corpus? Gee, I wonder why you like the place. Let me guess? That was sarcasm in case you are not too discerning.
As for not knowing my faith and cherry picking. That is laughable. The people you are describing are people like Pelosi, Biden, Ted Kennedy, etc. They are the ultimate cafeteria Catholics. So, once again, you fail. And keep on being nasty. I’d miss the real Wayne if you tried to change.
Steve? I fail to see how Wayne has been ‘mean & nasty’ to you. A little sensitive, aren’t you? Gay bears cute? Ahhhh, no. Tell you what. Why don’t you Google ‘gay muscle bear’ & then tell me how ‘tough’ the men of Texas are. And by the way, I am a gay xtian but I do not consider Texans to be true xtians. Xtianity in the south is just part of the everyday culture, a mile wide & an inch deep.
@Devin. Can you read? Are you blind? Wayne has been plenty nasty. Or are you a hypocrite liberal too. Sensitive? That’s your buddy, Wayne. And why would I want to Google that? Let me guess. Gay bodybuilders? I suppose you think there are no straight bodybuilders in Texas.
@Wayne. Did you do your homework assignment? You know, the one where you get the priest’s side of the story. If not, I am going to have to give you an F.
Steve:
Did the Catholic Church support the priest? No they did not. Why is that, Steve?
Steve, yes I can read & I’m not blind. Thanks for asking, I guess. I am not a liberal – they are far too tame for me. I’m a Progressive. I am not hypocritical. Gay muscle bears may lift weights to keep in shape but they are a LOT more than that. Don’t check it out though, it might make you blush. Or get envious. I guess the only thing we have in common, Steve, is that we both follow football.
“cnsnews”
And there went any credibility you thought you had. Good work. You may as well have referred to CBN or WorldNetDaily. Typical of your sort.
“This site obviously does not give the priest’s side of the story, AKA the truth”
“After all, all priests lie and all lesbians tell the truth according to you guys.”
So believing what he says is true because he’s a priest? There is nothing on WJLA that suggests any dishonesty on Ms. Johnson’s part. Typical hypocrisy on your part. If you want to find out what a conservative is doing, pay attention to what he accuses others of doing. Once more, you demonstrate that you know nothing of truth, because you all have been dealing in deceit and coercion for centuries.
“Truth Wins Out….Homosexuality Is Immoral” x2
” I guess Bonehead the Socialist wants the USA to turn into Europistan. Brilliant.”
“You are blind if you can’t see Europe is changing and losing its identity. Whites are having fewer babies…”
“@Devin the liberetard moron. You and the rest of your atheistard buddies can have New England. Texans would kick the arses of you immoral losers up there. The women are much better looking here and men are men. Not wimps and flamers. Beantown? Just as bad as San Fagcisco. I’m glad I found this site so I can ridicule so many liberal losers at the same time. Boohahahahaahaha”
The best you can offer after your incoherent tantrums here is a pathetic faux apology, and you have the audacity to feign outrage that such a sad offering is rejected, and attempt to play the victim? Clearly you have no shame. You have only yourselves and your actions to blame for any hostility.
Every time I see someone like you here, I am reminded of what I used to be. Arrogant enough to believe I could do no wrong because I was saved, and that everyone else who was saved could also do no wrong. That was what being part of that taught me. THAT is what I am ashamed of. The reason for that being that the wrongdoings I have seen committed against others of different beliefs in the name of that particular belief were not even discussed, even encouraged among those circles, even though they did nothing wrong that I had seen. I eventually tired of trying to defend the indefensible, even though I knew something was wrong. I couldn’t keep saying that it was good, even though it was being used to justify heinous misdeeds. It wasn’t until I went out on my own that I actually got to see what everyone else was like. It took me a while to accept that people merely being different weren’t evil. Even now, I make my penance by joining in the fight for humanity’s future, against those who seek to oppress and destroy.
Steve is a robot. All he can do is parrot Rush Limbaugh: “Librul, Librul, Librul, Librul, Librul. Yee Haw.”
Has he said a single original thing on this site that is not an idiot’s talking point from talk radio?
@Aulton. Once again, mean and nasty liberals like you started it all with your attacks on conservatives, the priest, and the Catholic Church. You just keep on being the hypocrite liberal that you are so good at being. Try copying and pasting the nasty comments by your liberal buddies. Try going to FoxNews.com and see the liberal trolls over there posting their hateful comments. And don’t accept my sincere apology then. I don’t care.
Steve said “They are the ultimate cafeteria Catholics.”.
You’re a cafeteria christian too Steve. All christians are cafeteria christians – the bible says christians must make animal sacrifices, this is god’s covenant with mankind for all time.
Steve, you’ll like this. It’s a quote from Steven Weinberg, “With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.”
@Wayne. The priest was suspended by the Washington archdiocese for some other bogus offense not having to do with this issue. Guess you didn’t realize that. And just like there are liberal lay Catholic, there are some weak liberal priests and bishops.
And I don’t listen to Rush. You fail again.
You, on the other hand, probably parrot Maddow, Matthews, and Schultz.
Steve, Rachel Maddow is one of the best commentators on TV. She is not an ‘entertainer’ like Rush. (At least that’s what he calls himself.) Chris Matthews is a little conservative for my taste. Ed Schult is a blustery but good commentator too. Actually I prefer Keith Olbermann & Cent Uygur & the team over on Current TV. Do you get Current TV in Texas? You’d hate it.
You have a VERY flexible definition of sincerity, apparently.
By the way, Fox News is a bad example to use to point out alleged “liberal nastiness”, especially considering that your conservative friends deal said nastiness there in spades, as well as practically everywhere else on the net, with higher concentration of it on sites like Free Republic. I suppose when you reek of hypocrisy as powerful as yours, you accuse everyone else of smelling like such.
@Steve Also, how long will you lot pretend to be completely innocent? You guys started out on the offensive, expecting everyone to just lay down and take it. And yes, for countless centuries, everyone did. No more. Now that we finally have a voice, and a means to defend ourselves, you seek to silence us back into submission, just like in the good old days. Now that you no longer have the power to enact your old brutal methods of doing so, you must resort to wounded gazelle gambits, playing the victim when it’s clear the wounds are a result of failed aggression.
It’s so funny when people like Steve come on to a website, say incredibly nasty things and then cry when people argue with him that he’s being treated in a “mean and nasty” way. What a wimp. If you’re going to be a jerk stand by it–don’t cry when others don’t back down from you. It’s just pathetic.
@Priya Lynn. That is Old Covenant. That was for the Hebrews. I am a Catholic. Nice try. You fail.
@Aulton: “Every time I see someone like you here, I am reminded of what I used to be. Arrogant enough to believe I could do no wrong because I was saved, and that everyone else who was saved could also do no wrong. That was what being part of that taught me. THAT is what I am ashamed of.”
I want you to know that I love ya for saying that – and for the insightful posts you make.
@Daniel: The ‘Ooooh you stood up to my bigotry! I’m a VICTIM!’ meme is certainly something they’ve latched onto, isn’t it?
Steve said “Priya Lynn. That is Old Covenant. That was for the Hebrews. I am a Catholic. Nice try. You fail.”.
Nice try Steve – you fail. No where in the bible does it say that commandment is repealed. God doesn’t make mistakes, if he wanted to repeal the commandment to make animal sacrifices at a later date he wouldn’t have said it was a covenant for all time. What part of forever don’t you understand, Steve? Christians like you have been trying to rely on that pathetic “old covenant” excuse for a long time, it just doesn’t fly.
You’re a cafeteria Catholic Steve, just like all Catholics.
Steve, the way you go back and forth between OMG I’m a victim and OMG gays/liberals are SOOOOOOO evil/Look at my Texas skillz is pathetic. Quit trolling or quit insulting.
@Aulton. Alleged liberal nastiness on FoxNews? So I’m a liar? How about usernames like Slutty Mary, as in the Blessed Mother, Gay Jesus, republitard, notafoxtard, repukes, and many, many more. And that is nothing compared to the postings. More liberal trolls frequent conservative sites spreading their hatred than vice-versa. FACT.
When did I say I was completely innocent? Never.
And once again, mean-spirited liberals like yourself started the attacks. FACT. Pull your head out of your liberal arse and check out the postings at the top. Lots of nasty comments there, oh purveyor of hypocrisy.
who is this “steve” chick, and why does she care so much about homosexuals?
by the way, all the fundies about to comment here on TWO, the BIBLE says nothing about homosexual people. I’ve read it and studied it. it’s talking about cult prostitutes and straight men who took boys in so they could have sex with them
@priya Lynn. No nasty and witty liberal response to my posting proving you wrong? WEAK. You don’t know what you are talking about, like most liberals.
@Dennis. Do you know who this she-male, Denise is? Let It know that taking lessons on scripture from It is beyond ridiculous. It also seems to think that Steve is a chick’s name. This lib is not too bright. Thanks for passing it along.
@Steve
thank you for the compliment, I am bigender :D
and you sound just like a child-troll
@Stevie oh and I’m conservative, not liberal
@Priya Lynn. Hebrew priests of the Old Testament worshipped God in different ways. One was with slain animal offerings. With the New Testament, priests offer up the living Christ to his Father. Ever hear of the sarifice of the Mass? The concentrated host? The body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus. That’s what we do now. Understand now? FAIL AGAIN. That’s strike two. One more and your out. Man, you and some of the other libs think I am a Pelosi Catholic. Bad mistake on your part.
@Steve I get it now. Whenever someone states a fact that doesn’t align with your propaganda on Fox News, it’s trolling. You guys even accuse your own who make points you don’t like as trolls, accusing them of being liberal even though they very clearly identify otherwise. As far as invective in commentary, I’m afraid you still have the lion’s share, and far more severe (especially so if the target is a woman or someone an even slightly darker skin tone, or has naturally red hair [yes I've seen it before]). You even have public figures (officials even!) in on the act, calling for the assassination of the President and his ‘monkey family’. Not to mention how ridiculous you guys sound, believing every single conspiracy theory out there, with all the tweets piling up about how the President somehow murdered Breitbart (but that’s another story for another time).
I did see the comments on top. Some of them are from Catholics who can see the behavior of the organization for what it is, and so speak out against it. One of them, understandably angry about how such misdeeds by the organization bring great shame to her faith. There was one (distasteful, considering the subject matter is serious) joke about altar boys under skirts. There were many, from people like you, who think any sort of calling out for appalling behavior is an attack. One in particular obsessing over sex like a mad fiend.
@Aulton. More nonsensical drivel spewing from your pie-hole. YOU GET NOTHING. Obviously you have either not read the priest’s side of the story or you dismiss it. Once again, I’ll take the priest’s word over the lesbian Buddhist with an agenda. She should be ashamed at her conduct. She knew what she was doing. She is no longer a Catholic, but a Buddhist. Even if she was still a Catholic, she would not be in a state of grace and therefore should not partake of the Blessed Sacrament. WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? DUUUUUUUHHHHHHHH
As for the so-called Catholics you mention. They are a disgrace. The name of this site is a joke…just like you, sweet-boy.
“More nonsensical drivel spewing from your pie-hole” and he has the nerve to call other people mean and nasty.
@Dennis. You’re welcome and congratulations. Not sure why you called me a chick thinking it would insult me. I love women. I’ve been married to one for almost 18 years. With your weak attempt at insulting me you disparaged all women, even liberals. Bet you didn’t think of that. However, I guess women can forgive you since you are a confused individual.
@Daniel. Just returning the complement.
Steve,
Answer me this honestly. I have many friends who are conservative, Catholic even, many who believe that I shouldn’t have the right to marry or get equal protection under the law because I am an out and proud lesbian and an atheist. Still, even with my most homophobic friends (and yes, the correct term is homophobia) I’ve never seen this much hatred and anger. Why are you so angry? Why is your heart filled with so much hate?
Think about that.
By the way, before you call me all manner of “liberal-insulting” names, please think about the fact that I’m still in high school. Do you really feel ok calling a high schooler the kind of filthy names you’ve been calling everyone else? I believe that Jesus said something about “let he among us without sin be the first to cast a stone” and “turn the other cheek”.
Love, not hate.
@Emma. A lot of people misunderstand that verse from the Bible and take it out of context. The adulterer in that passage was being condemned to death by the scribes and Pharisees. I am not condemning anyone to death or hell. I am just pointing out sin. And yes, I am a sinner. However, I repent for mine. A lot of people throwing that verse out also never mention Jesus telling the same adulterer after not condemning her to go and sin no more.
As for being homophobic. I have no fear of or contempt for homosexuals. I hate the sin, not the sinner. Yes, I know you are an atheist and feel there is nothing wrong with being a lesbian. Fine. I’m not going to try to change you. We’ll just have to agree to disagree.
I have a son that is a junior in high school. He’s a smart kid taking IB/AP classes. His mother and I are very proud of him.
Good luck with school.
Steve? Just wonderin’. Are you like this really lonely guy who has nothing better to do than to troll sites that disagree with you? Wouldn’t you be happier on some kind of catholic site? Or is that the whole point? You’re so filled up with anger you have to come here to TWO to spread your bile? You are different from the fundie trolls though. You are not here to save our souls. Just to instigate a battle & call us names. What a waste of time.
