So, I’m watching the roundtable on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos today and instead of being able to concentrate on the talking heads, I’m distracted.
Why?
Because at the bottom of the screen, (See Picture) ABC is running non-stop Tweets from viewers. It was remarkably annoying and a real impediment to enjoying the show. Look ABC producers — if I wanted to watch Twitter, I’d be online, not viewing your damn show. Please stop treating us like we are all six years-old and have ADHD. It would be one thing if this was MTV — but the people who watch Sunday morning political talk shows usually have enough attention span where they don’t have to have multimedia hurled at them to stop them from turning the channel.
Am I alone with my annoyance of this new trend? What do you all think about this obnoxious phenomenon foisted on us by nitwit producers who get paid enough to know better?
Again, ABC, and all other producers — stop the live Twitter feeds and Facebook updates. It doesn’t make you seem cool, just out of touch with the demographic that is actually watching your shows.

Eventually the technology will catch up with TV and people will be able to block the Twitter bar just like we can now with ads on YouTube. I predict.
In the meantime, I agree, too much is too much. Or as I like to say to the kids in my classroom when they all start talking at the same time: “I’m good at a lot of things, but I’m not good at a lot of things all at once.”
I agree, too. Ordinarily I ignore the twitter stuff, but at times it does get a bit annoying.
I was looking for a reason why my low vision blindness is an advantage. Now I’ve got it. I can’t see this twitter distraction.
This reminds me of a Dilbert cartoon where the clueless boss demands the latest technology fad even though it makes no sense. I wonder who the Dilbert boss is at ABC who asked for it?
I pity the poor ABC employee who has to monitor the feed to make sure no Santorum soils the bottom of the screen
I didn’t see that ABC show but there was a constant feed of something running during the Ed Schultz show on MSNBC so you see, it isn’t just ABC that’s doing it. I ignored it by looking away from the TV & just listening to what was being said so I wouldn’t be distracted. I often ‘view’ TV by just listening to it.
Some of us DO have ADHD. That remark wasn’t so cool.
It also shows you don’t understand ADHD. Most of us would find the tweets MORE distracting than the average non-ADHD person would.
This is just a first step towards the continued evolution of media. This annoyance is the infantile baby steps of interactive television you watch you respond your response appears on screen. This would of happened maybe 2+ years earlier and we’d be ahead of this current fad by now if Hollywood wasn’t trying to castrate and dominate the cyber industry. Just wait a year or 2 it will be better or worse depending on the person you ask but your mileage may vary.
