Dr. Warren Throckmorton has some interesting news to report on his blog:
On Saturday, I noted that Cameron recruited Herb Titus for Monumental, his new movie. Titus has become popular with Birthers who believe Obama is not a natural born citizen and therefore ineligible for the Presidency.
Reading more, it appears that Dr. Titus is also of the Christian Reconstructionism persuasion. Here he delivers a tribute to Rousas J. Rushdoony, father of Christian Reconstructionism, here he argues that public education is unbiblical, here is his book on dominion and law and here he and law partner William Olson argue against the Lawrence vs. Texas case that nullified sodomy laws nationally.
According to this Atlantic article by Harvey Cox, Titus was fired as law school dean at Regent University because of his dominionist views.
Clearly, Cameron’s religious views need to be examined a little more carefully. Maybe his recruitment of Titus is coincidental. However, we all know what they say about birds flocking together. In any case, Cameron is giving a large platform to an individual who appears to have some outlandishly radical views.
For the unacquainted, many Reconstructionists want to replace the US Constitution with a form of Old Testament-based Christian Sharia. In some cases, this includes the death penalty for LGBT people and for “crimes” such as adultery.
I’m sure the conversation on the movie set was just lovely.

Cameron is under the sway of pretend historian David Barton who has a Reconstructionist bent, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he were aligning himself with Titus. I listened to his interview on the Janet Mefferd show & he did most of his talking about ‘Monumental’ which apparently Barton served as ‘expert’in history of the Pilgrims. Yeah, right, sure.
…Obama is not a natural born citizen and therefore ineligible for the Presidency. Are they still beating this dead horse? His first term is almost over, but I’m sure they’ll still be promoting this absurd lie during his *second term*. I’m sure none of the ‘birthers’ were bothered that McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone, but then he’s the ‘right color’.
No doubt Cameron is a genuine loon, but he’s a loon who holds absolutely no influence over the majority of Americans. He’s a has-been child star who has been unemployable in Hollywood for decades. I personally believe that he’s obviously a conflicted gay man (and we know they all are — straight men have better things to think about than gay sex) who believes he believes what he says. Most importantly, his only source of income is now the far-fringe right-wing crazies who support his “career”.
All bigots are bad and all hate should be confronted and exposed, but Google “kirk cameron monumental” and there’s not an imdb listing or a Hollywood Reporter or Variety article or even a single newspaper or magazine story for it in the first five pages. Cameron is crazy, but he’s not hopelessly stupid. His recent publicity stunts are just that, to raise awareness of a movie I, for one, never even heard about until this morning.
I think it’s just as important to point out that he’s hating the gays in order to make money as for any other motivation, if not moreso.
Off topic (somewhat) — More of the same:

first off gary, he was born in hawaii. it became a state in 1959. where were you in geography during this discussion? the lower 48 are not only states in this country. alaska isn’t part of the lower 48 but did you support sarah palin who was governor of that state as of 2008? if so, what makes the difference? besides, not all of the lower 48 are actually states either. 4 are commonwealths and there have been presidents from them long before either of us were born. were you critical of that? it’s time to stop beating this dead horse and cut the distractions, already! i’m fed up with hearing about this. job debates, women’s rights and healthcare reform are far more important than this issue!
Why are we paying any attention to this pathetic has-been? Stop giving Cameron the attention he craves.
He’s actually has a big platform in fundie circles. It is always a huge mistake to ignore the crazies. It comes back to bite you bad.
Larry D: I can make no sense of your comments.
Paul- I believe what happened is Larry read the first sentence of Gary’s comment. Then assumed Gary was in belief of this statement, and some ranting followed. Of which some I understood. This is why reading everything people say is important. Preaching to the choir can be fun, but it is unproductive.
Oh yeah and Kirk Cameron sucks! :)
@ larry d — did you even read what I wrote??!! I was *criticizing* the birthers, not agreeing with them!! And yes I know Obama was born in Honolulu, I’ve seen the reproduction of of his birth certificate and am fully aware that HI and AL are *states* that are not attached to the ‘lower 48′. I only brought the subject up “again” because it was mentioned in the above article in reference to Herb Titus. sheesh.
Kirk Cameron is an irrelevance.
Pay him no heed, lest you should inadvertantly feed this troll, as it will undoubtedly bite the hand that feeds it.
