The headline sounds bad enough, but let’s dive in deeper to see just how disgusting this comment really is. It comes from Georgia state representative Terry England, and he was arguing for a bill which would ban all abortions after twenty weeks. Setting aside the fact that so many of the abortions that happen late in a pregnancy happen for the saddest, most medically necessary reasons, this bill specifically bans these abortions “even if the woman is known to be carrying a stillborn fetus or the baby is otherwise not expected to live to term.”
Let that sink in for a minute. Even if the fetus is known to be already dead, Georgia wingnuts want to require women to go ahead and experience the “joy” of birthing. And now here’s what Terry England said about it:
A speech from a Georgia Republican state representative surfaced last week in which he compared women seeking abortions of stillborn fetuses to cows and pigs.
State Rep. Terry England was speaking in favor of HB 954, which makes it illegal to obtain an abortion after 20 weeks even if the woman is known to be carrying a stillborn fetus or the baby is otherwise not expected to live to term.
He then recalled his time working on a farm:“Life gives us many experiences…I’ve had the experience of delivering calves, dead and alive. Delivering pigs, dead or alive. It breaks our hearts to see those animals not make it.”
Bless ‘dem cow and pig hearts and bless ‘dem lady hearts.
Can we please officially end the pretense that our ideological opponents simply have different opinions on complex issues? They hate women, they hate minorities, they hate gay people, they hate anyone and everyone whose freedom and equality threatens their own [at least in their own heads, as what they really fear is losing their sense of supremacy]. Period!

It just keeps on gettin’ crazier and crazier. I notice this is coming from south of the Mason Dixon line…. . Hmmmmm.
Yes, infant death happens in utero. The decent respect owed the mother and infant, and her family is that the LAW keep its mitts off the sad situation. Let is all be between this woman and her doctor.
“They hate women, they hate minorities, they hate gay people, they hate anyone and everyone whose freedom and equality threatens their own [at least in their own heads, as what they really fear is losing their sense of supremacy]. Period!”
Evan – I think what you mean to say is “threatens their own privilege.” That’s what the GOP has become. It is the party of privilege. The Republicans are in the business of protecting white, heterosexual, male, Christian privilege, a privilege that never should have existed in this country but does. Fortunately, it is a dying privilege. You can see that it is by the shrill screams of the Tea Party and the GOP supporters.
Also, isn’t this the same guy who introduced legislation to criminalize abortions and investigate all miscarriages as potential murders? How do these bozos keep getting elected?
I know I read postings about how LGBT’s who vote Republican should have their heads examined, however, I’m beginning to think this sentiment should now apply to all women.
These people jus’ ain’t right in the head.
I have been present with women who deliver stillborn. There is nothing really to say, it is so painful for everyone involved. For Rep. England to compare a woman’s experience to a farm animal is without conscience!
wtf is wrong with these people????? jezzus christ
Wyocowboy, we have never been able to figure out what is wrong with these people. If you have the answer/cure, we would love it…
“Bizarre” hardly addresses what spews from the minds of these so-called “caring” people. The mother now means nothing in these situations. You are just the vessel for the birth of the baby not matter the cost to you, your health, your sanity, etc. MEN know better. Any woman, other than a totally certifiably insane one, who votes republican is pathetic. Truly pathetic. It is so apparent that all this abortion stuff, union stuff, etc has been a national plan on the part of republican legislatures across the country. They put their heads together and hatched this grandiose set of plans. The whole contraception/abortion thing came out of Republican MEN’s heads. Trust them ladies, they want only the best, but not for you.
the smart thing would be to just castrate the bulls.
Isn’t this basically a Little Johnny joke?
Terry England: “Little Johnny, what do you call it when I feel deep sorrow upon a pig being born dead?”
Little Johnny: “Brotherly love.”
@emma, I wonder what they’d think if we proposed that.
