Mario Diaz, one of the concerned men of the Concerned Women for America, in a longer piece about DOMA or something [I don't know, I skimmed it], may not realize it, but he’s sort of conceded defeat in the “culture wars”:
The fact of the matter is that this is a cultural and political issue and, as we discussed, homosexuals are slowly winning over the culture. Let them continue that work and change the laws if they are able to convince their fellow citizens. We will make that case as to why God’s model for marriage is best.
Yep, we are winning, and we’re winning because the more we come out, the more people who know us, the more they realize that the Religious Right has been lying about us this whole time, and that there’s nothing to fear.
[h/t Jeremy]

And for those of us–gay and straight–who are people of faith, we understand that homophobia is a sin. And the more we confront it and push it back, the more we win. For too long, we cowered in fear of it, but now, we have seen the light!
@Michael completely and totally agree
The problem isn’t the religious right. It’s their leaders. The congregations don’t think their leaders would ever lie to them (they’re men and women “of God,” afterall).
“God’s model for marriage.” I’ve often wondered about that because he “created Adam and Eve” but Adam and Eve were not married. I’m not aware of any mention of a marriage in the creation. Why not? Hate to break the news to you believers, but marriage is a creation of man.
@Gianni
you’re right, “marriage” was manmade, haha. people should learn to get their facts straight
but about Adam and Eve, I always thought that the two of them having sex was their “marriage” because according to the Bible, having sex is uniting yourself with someone else… so, basically sex IS marriage
oh and I’ve also found out that the verses they use to model marriage after were actually about divorce
I’ve never been able to understand where in the bible contemporary marriage is deliniated. Seems to me that it was a property arrangment with male owners & females as chattel. Besides which, since God told them to be fruitful & to multiply I presume that, because there was no incest, that means that Adam & Eve had sex with their children. After all, that is how you multiply, right? So if polygamy & multigenerational sex were acceptable right from the start, whatever in the world are today’s prudes getting so upset about. Seems to me that two men or two women marrying is quite tame compared to what they were getting up to in the distant past!
With the fundys its OK if a penis and a vagina are involved, even those incestual things that happened in the first testament. But God is ALWAYS abominated by two penises and two vaginas getting together… He didn’t create them that way! Don’t you ready your Bible? God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve! Or something like that….. .
Should read “don’t you read your Bible?”
Got hurried!
“two vaginas getting together”
I think the fundies freakos are mainly offended by two penises getting together, not two vaginas. Combo of the “eew a penis” factor and the active/passive concept. Vaginas cannot really have sex in their dim brains, only penises can.
Of course there’s more to women-sex than vaginas, but these sad puritans can’t acknowledge That Part since it doesn’t make babies.
Newsflash: Adam and Eve never existed. The only people to take that story literally are American Christians. Most Christians in the past would have understood it as just a story and an allegory
