This is actually from 2000, when Fiona Apple was but twenty-two, but Queerty published it today. A high school fan wrote her a letter asking for support in his quest to start a gay-straight alliance, and here is her response [click to embiggen]:
I like this part:
“A person who loves is a righteous person, and if someone has the ability and desire to show love to another — to someone willing to receive it, then for goodness sake, let them do it. Hate has no place in the equation; there is no function for it to perform. Love is love and there will never be too much.”
She’s always “gotten it,” in a number of ways. And because I’ve been listening to a lot [a lot] of Fiona Apple these days, here’s something I discovered not too long ago, and it is incredible. Fiona performing the old standard “After You’ve Gone.” Enjoy:

That’s beautiful. Kudos to Fiona. There was a letter last week. It’s called “Dear 15 Year Old Me. I’m writing to tell you: It Got Better.” It offers further support for gay teens and LGBT youth everywhere. There can never be too much of that either.
