It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with disgraced hate group leader Paul Cameron, but don’t worry, he’s still the same. Brian Tashman highlights the March memo from his Family Research Institute, which claims that Canada’s fertility rate is going down, and it’s all because of gayness:
Like frogs in a kettle being slowly boiled to death, FRI frequently hears people — including those concerned about our cultural decline — suggest that the progress of gay rights is not worth a great deal of worry. After all, ‘the sky is not falling. The sun will always come up tomorrow.’ But no matter how ‘big’ or ‘small’ the crisis seems at the moment, the goal of proper social policy is to assure a future for society. As the birth rates of Western countries continue to fall, those who have supported gay rights seem oblivious to the contribution such ‘rights’ make to the decline. Even those who have ‘tolerated’ (or not vigorously opposed) gay rights do not seem to understand the implications.
But now the sky is starting to fall. From Xtra, a gay magazine in Vancouver, comes this:
“the gay rights movement is shifting norms in Canada. And with that comes a message to those who won’t evolve: your outdated morals are no longer acceptable, and we will teach your kids the new norm.” (10/20/11)
Canada produces 1.6 children/woman. Its future is thus doomed. Onward gay rights!
It’s rare that the Chicken Littles of the Religious Right actually use the phrase “sky is falling,” but there you have it. People aren’t having as many children in Canada, because gays.

bahahahahaha
What did he do? Go to the Xtra site and pick something at random? Something that he can twist….forgive me, I shouldn’t have to ask.
And of course, the quote is a remark made in an editorial about an anti-gay crusader attempting to stop the “Out in Schools” program which of course has nothing to do with Canada’s birth rate….

So effing dumb!
As for the birth rate, the CIA world book lists Canada at 186, ahead of most of Europe.
“While the desire for small families is keeping the birth rate low, Canada doesn’t differ much from other Western countries. The anomaly is the United States, where the national rate exceeds 2.0, though regional rates vary widely across the country.”

Maybe he should keep it in his pants – there’d be fewer minds for him to poison.
Seven billion people in the world and the wingnuts are still whining about insufficient baby making.
With all disrespect Mr. Cameron, you should stick to worrying about happenings in the U.S. and leave us out of it. We Canadians are quite happy thank you very much and this guy is one export we can do without. That said, my LGBT compatriots stateside do have my sympathies for having to put up with such douchebags.
Our neighbors to the north are doing quite fine! Their government doesn’t spend all it’s citizens tax dollars on wars. Their dollar is strong. They provide health care for all. They also allow ALL people to marry regardless of sexual orientation. Their crime rate is extremely low because every Tom Dick and Harry cannot tote a handgun. It sounds pretty nice to me. Perhaps THEIR government should be the one to build a wall on the border to keep us disgruntled Yanks OUT!
I have a lesbian friend in Canada. she’s awesome
by the way, these people are getting ridiculous… it’s not like MORE people are going to turn gay if gays get their tights…
We need a return to the thrilling days of yesteryear when deeply closeted gay men routinely married unsuspecting women and fathered children in order to survive in a world virulently hostile to homosexuality. Those dysfunctional families must have been thrilling to behold.
What nonsense. The birthrate has been dropping for decades in most developed countries, including countries like Poland, where homophobia is widespread. If this guy were serious about increasing the birthrate, he’d push for things like good jobs and maternity leave.
Actually, even in Third World/under developed countries the birthrate is also falling and coming more in line with developed nations’ birthrates. In fact, according most credible population studies, the human race is expected to plateau in the middle of this century across all national boundaries. This is in part due to more children surviving into adulthood with the need for bigger families decreasing.
Paul Cameron, if you’re gonna make lies about my country, take off eh
