Oh, look, it is a handy chart that was posted by Missouri state representative Donna Lichtenegger, that “translates” real world things into wingnut. This is a way we can come together as a nation maybe, by understanding each others’ languages a little better!
No, I’m kidding, but this really is the way a lot of wingnuts think. Don’t you like how “gay marriage” becomes “legalized perversion?” Har har.

I’m so very tired of slurs on my beloved state. Yes, we have some terrible people in power. Name one state who doesn’t. Texans are good people, by and large.
We live in a representative republic Lacey. Who puts those terrible people into power?
I absolutely love Texans. I lived in Alief, TX for four years. But, come on, the buffoons they elect — George W. Bush, Rick Perry, Tom DeLay, Dick Armey and on and on.
When these jokers are no longer inflicted on the rest of the nation, the jokes will stop.
Lacey, come on. After giving us George W. Bush and Rick Perry, you have to expect it.
I have lived in Texas most of my life and traveled the world living in the UK and Japan for several years… I would have to say Californian’s are far more concerned with guns in Texas than actual Texans. A very small portion of our population owns a gun. I can tell you this, there are probably more illegal guns in California that both legal/illegal ones in Texas. If you would simply talk to everyday Texan’s and not the persona propagated by the media, you would see we are very much alike.
Nathan — having lived in Texas, I think it is fair to say that it is awash with guns. And it is every day Texans who keep electing America’s biggest jerks (well, Oklahoma and Minnesota aren’t far behind).
So, let’s just admit the truth: There is a huge minority of awesome Texans. Cities such as Houston are progressive enough to elect a lesbian mayor. That is wonderful!
But let’s face it, the majority of voters in the entire state keep electing troglodytes. The state’s GOP is practically a totalitarian regime.
Maybe a majority of Texans are cool — but a majority of Texas voters are not. The facts are the facts.
Awesome Texans aren’t a huge minority, we are the majority.
Your problem is that you equate the majority of voters with the majority of the state. The truth is we have an abysmal voting rate. We’re not the only state with that problem.
There are myriad reasons for this, far too complicated to expound in a short comment. In short, the rich a******s that work to get other rich a******s elected in other states work the same way here.
I’ll also note that, as with the rest of the country, the GOP renaissance of power is a relatively recent thing here. let’s not forget Ann Richards.
Yes indeed. I’m a misplaced Californian in Texas. The list is a truism for about 80% of the population here. It’s gross really. I’m moving asap by the way. Moved here to study and now I’m getting out!
Don’t feel too bad Lacey, I live in NJ and we are always the butt of jokes for the entire country — especially New Yorkers; and this state elected one of the *biggest* horse’s asses around — Chris Christie.
I’m in Vermont. Everyone loves Vermont. (Unless its winter)
I’m in Washington, and yes, we get a lot of rain, though it’s often exaggerated in fictional works *cough*Twilight*cough*. Why, this whole last week has been mostly sunny, and reasonably warm!
I’m in Masachusetts & we have a great governor (Deval Patrick). But we do have lunkheads like the MassResistence people. Fortunately, they are the exception, not the rule.
