“Cool supporter” is in quotes because we’re talking about Ted Nugent, of course. Ted is meeting with the Secret Service today over his violent comments about President Obama, which may well constitute a threat against his life. Of course, that’s just Ted being Ted, probably, which doesn’t speak to the concept of Being Ted. It’s not the first time he’s done this.
What’s interesting, though, is that Mitt Romney actually courted Ted Nugent’s endorsement, because Ted is the coolest celebrity Republicans have. Pathetic, I know, but it is what it is. Bill Schmalfeldt wonders, though, if Ted Nugent’s past proclivities with underaged girls will come up in that meeting with the Secret Service:

According to the “Behind the Music Episode Guide,” Ted allegedly prefers his gals to be in the mid-stages of puberty.
He lambastes drug users and alcohol drinkers, but repeatedly admits (without a trace of humility, however) to being a serial pedophile. Two relationships (one with his wife and one with “muse” Pele Massa, who was 17 when they started dating) were ended due to Ted’s infidelity while on the road, often with underage women. But Ted justifies his behavior with one of his trademark funny expressions: “alternative flesh management.”
But, as Bill points out, that’s not the only source available. Another is the one and only Courtney Love [grain of salt, of course], who said this on the Howard Stern Show:
Courtney Love phoned into the Howard Stern Show on Monday before eventually coming into the studio where she made the shocking allegation that one of the first times she had oral sex was with Ted Nugent. She said she was young and she didn’t want to say exactly how old she was, but eventually confessed she was 12-year-old — which would have made Nugent approximately 28 years old at the time. The New York Post attempted to contact Nugent for a response but was unsuccessful. Moderators at Nugent’s official forum deleted the only thread asking about the topic as evidenced by the forum’s search giving a file not found error for the matched thread. She added it was a long time ago and she didn’t even have breasts yet.
Courtney’s allegations, taken with the weight of Schmalfeldt’s other sources (and yes, he has more than the ones I quoted), seem to be worth discussing. Will this be brought up by the media? As usual in our political discourse, most things are Okay If You’re A Republican. GOP base voters will forgive just about anything as long as somebody is pandering to their fears and resentments. But still. Seeking out an endorsement from somebody who’s admitted to having a proclivity for underaged girls is kind of gross, even if it’s the only celebrity available to Republicans.

Nugent’s about the same age as Romney, so I doubt he’s courting the youth vote.

I think Willard has done everything he can to downplay his role and involvement in this bizarre christianist cult. But he’s a true believer, no doubt. And that spells trouble for women and LGBT people.

I take issue with the statement that Nugent is the coolest Republican celebrity. What about “The Rock”, Donny and Marie Osmond, Billy Baldwin, Victoria Jackson, Pat Boone, Wilfred Brimley, Kirk Cameron, Chuck Norris, Kelsey Grammar, Jon Voight, Ben Stein, Donald Trump, Horrendo Rivera, Rupert Murdoch, and Joe Arpaio? At least half of them are almost as cool as Ted Nugent! (But honestly, the coolest Republican celebrity has to be Clint Eastwood–he’s pro equality, but the tea baggers don’t really like him. He’s too honest for them.)
