Large numbers of unreconstructed wingnuts actually think this is the liberal vision for the United States, and because they have so little experience with people different from them, aside from their handlers tell them, they have no frame of reference for reality. We need to create a global warming group that keeps a running tab on all of the propagandists who are shoveling such BS. Then we can hold them accountable when the effects of global warming kick in. A price should be paid.
The effects ARE kicking in. After this last tropical winter, a new poll came out which shows that fully 69% of Americans now believe in global warming. It’s only the most dead end of wingnuts who still don’t it. The snarky comment that came along with that poll was that it’s scary to imagine what kind of apocalyptic event would have to occur for a similar percentage of Americans to embrace the fact of evolution.
The effects of global warming ARE kicking in. The problem is, once we’ve reached the “tipping point”, no one’s attention will be paid to who the obstructionists were. And just like the right wing christianists who so long supported apartheid in South Africa , as soon as it was dismantled to universal acclaim they pretended they had been opponents all along. Watch. All of the global warming deniers will deny they were, when it becomes incontrovertibly self-evident. Typical of christianists in all fields of knowledge, now that I think about it.
This almost seem like a parody.
Sadly, the comments at GayPatriot show that there are people out there who seriously think that BS is accurate.
But how do you even counter it? Bruce wants a point-by-point refutation, which translated from GayPatriot-speak to English, means he wants me to waste the best part of an hour formulating a powerful refutation that will be ignored by one half of the crowd and mindlessly deconstructed into attacks to throw back at me by the other. Even my time isn’t THAT worthless.
The solution would seem to be to just ignore them completely, but to my mind the biggest problem in American politics today is a lack of left-right dialogue, which isn’t going to be solved by shutting down dialogue. But on the other hand, they’re NOT f*****g LISTENING.
It’s a damn paradox, I tells ya.
When the world ends as we know it, those who can be shown to have deliberately deceived the public on behalf of special interests should be held accountable.
How dare we pay attention to the environment when there are profits to be made! We don’t need air, water or bearable temperatures to survive but our CEOs need profits!
If I wanted America to fail…. I’d give conservatives everything they wanted just so they’d stop whining like little babies so I could finally get some peace and satisfaction as they realize they were wrong.
If I wanted America to fail, I’d put all these lies into four minute video and play it again and again and again for my fellow failists to wallow in.
As with the Gathering Storm piece, the key concepts are lying and highly produced video-just a bit longer and more annoying than any sensible person wants to put up with. This is made to build up the faithful rather than to change any functioning minds. The fail is not so much America as it is the fake individualism that the kind of people who fund this stuff use for an excuse for their crimes.
