I haven’t been paying too much attention to the various arguments surrounding Mitt and Ann Romney’s utter lack of awareness when it comes to the struggles of actual human beings in this country, because it’s not very closely related to what we do here. That being said, it’s officially election season and Mittens is the presumptive nominee for the role of “guy who loses to Barack Obama in November,” and this quote from Ann Romney is just breathtaking in its cluelessness:
Romney alluded to the fact that not all women can stay at home saying, “I love the fact that there are women out there who don’t have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids. Thank goodness that we value those people too. And sometimes life isn’t easy for any of us.”
Wow. Just wow.

Uh … first, this country doesn’t value those women. Ask a woman who’s trying to support a family on too small of a salary, or a woman who can’t find or afford childcare, or a woman without family medical insurance. Ask them how much they feel “valued,” Ms. Romney. Second, any problems you face as a wealthy woman look VERY different from their struggles.
My God, the Romneys are just a gold mine for facepalm-worthy bloopers.
That’s as bad as when GWB called working three jobs to survive “quintessentially American”. Really, Anne loves the fact that women have to work outside the home and still raise the kids? And she actually thinks Republicans value them?
Did I miss when Republicans changed their minds and voted “yes” on the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay act? Did I miss when they did something to make available affordable childcare for women who work outside the home? And that whole war-on-women thing is over? They’re going to give women access to reproductive care so they can manage their families and avoid slipping into poverty?
Right.
Take away stupid and ya get O’bama.
I think they modeled the character Victoria Grayson on the tv show Revenge after Ann Romney.
Of course she loves it that so many women have to work – someone has to scrub her many toilets.
While I support the work you’re doing on exposing anti-gay individuals and lies, you need to stop being so smug when it comes to the election itself. Obama is by no means unbeatable, and the election absolutely could go either way. Your “guy who loses to Obama in November” is both fool-hearty and could end up backfiring for Obama supporters because people will be less involved if they think Obama’s a cinch to win. He’s not. Economy is still shaky. Yes, the stock market has recovered almost completely, and Obama can absolutely help himself with those numbers. But as of right now, unemployment is still higher than it was when he took office, you’ve got gas prices off the reservation, and God only knows what’s going to be happening with Iran come November. So I would spend your time working to convince independents about why they should vote for Obama and not crowing about how it’s all in the bag, and in the process, alienating many stay-at-home moms (plenty of independents there) by tacitly defending the statement about “never worked a day in her life.”
