Truth Wins Out called on WMMS, a Clear Channel radio station in Cleveland, to suspend or fire radio personality DJ Dominic Dieter for reportedly telling a father he should arrange to have his daughter raped to turn her heterosexual. The noxious comments on the Rover’s Morning Glory show came in response to an email from a father who was upset when he came across his daughter kissing a girl. DJ Dominic Deiter declared on the air, “You should get one of your friends to screw your daughter straight.”
These comments are as unfunny as they are unconscionable. We call on WMMS and Clear Channel to immediately take action and hold DJ Deiter accountable for his grotesque and unprofessional actions. Deiter’s remarks were particularly troubling because so-called ‘corrective rape’ is actually an ‘ex-gay’ technique used on lesbians in some countries.
Earlier, The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) called on Clear Channel to hold Dieter accountable for his comment.
“It was appalling and dangerous for this show to tell a father that he should have one of his friends rape his daughter,” said Aaron McQuade, director of News & Field Media at GLAAD. “That’s essentially how Dieter responded to this listener, and this is no laughing matter in a world where people are too often the victims of violence and sexual assault based on their actual or perceived sexual orientation. And Dieter gave this vile advice to everyone who was listening, including educators, parents and children – sending the message that it’s okay to physically or sexually abuse people who are perceived to be gay.”

I am not defending this guy at all-I think he’s just another dumb straight shock jock. But in all fairness he never said the word “rape.” (although he probably implied it) He used the word “screw.” Yes you can “screw” someone without raping them.

As a gay man I don’t think what he said was smart but should he lose his job? He is protected by the 1st amendment. All those on here who want to silence him by having him fired do not believe in free speech. Its that simple, you can’t have it both ways. Either freedom of speech…all speech is protected or its not. Mark, he does not have the right to a radio show. And no one has suggested the government get involved. You need to look up what Freedom of Speech actually is and what the First Amendment actually says. Freedom of Speech does not mean you get to say whatever you want and everyone else has to shut up. And if you are in a radio show sponsored by businesses there is absolutely no reason people can’t contact those sponsors and make them aware of what they’re paying for.
No one is being silenced here–he can say this stuff on a blog or on a street corner like those of us who don’t have radio shows would have to do.

Mark, if you can’t have a conversation without getting your feelings hurt then there’s no chance for free speech. No one here was painting you as a bad guy, just letting you know what the issues are. I personally think this guy should, if not be fired, at least be chastened. If you have a radio show you also have responsibility.
Mark, for this to be a 1st Amendment issue there would have to be govt. involvement. The 1st Amendment says that the govt. will not interfere with free speech–but this is a matter of commerce. And as citizens and consumers the only way we have of making ourselves heard is through protest. And I don’t think calling for some responsibility for a radio host suggesting a man have his friends rape his daughter (and that is what he’s suggesting) is going to far.
Has anyone that has commented ever listened to the show? Probably not. Dieter is hilarious. He makes a bunch of stupid comments in the name of comedy. They are hit or miss, but have you ever listened to comedy? Lisa Lamponelli says things all the time that are far worse then anything ever said on Rovers Morning Glory. Scot, when he made these comments was he commenting on the idiocy of men who think that it’s a good idea for men to rape women to turn them straight (because, whether you know it or not–there are people who think that and they think that because of that it’s okay to abuse lesbians)? Dominic Dieter has apologized (and it sounds, even though he does the “anyone who was offended”, sincere) so obviously he knows his comments were offensive and he doesn’t think they were funny. The station says it’s doing something else to show it’s disapproval, I don’t know what it is.
