Maybe if we simply insisted that, any time a constitutional amendment is proposed banning same-sex marriage, the amendment would also ban cousin marriage, we’d start winning these Southern states back by landslides.
I mean, you’ve got to know your opposition’s weaknesses…
Just a thought.

Yeah, and convicted murderers can get married in NC, too, while incarcerated. But not good gay folks down at City Hall, no-sir-ee.
I don’t recall the Bible forbidding first-cousin marriage so I guess it’s OK.
“Yeah, and convicted murderers can get married in NC, too, while incarcerated.”
But it’s not like they’re anti-gay or anything. They’re just upholding “traditional moral values” and stuff.
Traditional: certainly. Moral: not even close.
I just want to say how sorry I am to live in this state! I wish I could say I was shocked it went this way, but I’d be lying. I’m disgusted and angry. And sad-very sad.
The last news I heard on this last night before the polls closed was on Rachel Maddow and it was 43% *against* the amendment. Frankly I was surprised that it was even that close. S l o w l y we are winning, even in backwards areas like NC.
My heartfelt sympathy goes to all the LGBT folks in N.C. It is sad and depressing indeed to know that more than half of your fellow North Carolinians consider you less that equal.
I suspect some very talented gays will leave the state and some very gay-inclusive businesses will stay out.
