North Carolina is set to rake in a lot of cash during the Democratic National Convention. A new petition is up encouraging the convention to move elsewhere in protest. Might as well let the convention stimulate the economy of a state that supports American values including equal rights and dignity for all citizens. Sign it if you’d like.

I will not donate a penny to the DNC until I know those funds will not be spent in a state that has bigotry written into their Constitution.
And the inconvenience and scrambling will be a small price to pay.
Discrimination is un-American. North Carolina doesn’t deserve to gist DNC convention.
Move the convention!
Move the convention…
I am 64. I must have full rights before I die. Please move the convention. Please
Move it!
The Democratic National Convention should move its convention out of North Carolina. The Democratic party is strongly supported by the gay community; thereby assuring the election of many democrats to offices at all levels of government. By voting to treat gay people has second class citizens, North Carolinians have shown they know nothing of Democracy. It would be an insult to gays for the the Convention to spend its money, much of which comes from gay contributors, in a state which contributes to the bigotry experienced by gays.
The Democratic National Convention is about equality for all. Apparently, NC does not support this belief. Therefore, the convention should be held in a place more conducive to the DNC’s message.
Shame on North Carolina for passing a law that violates civil rights. As a Democrat, please move the DNC to a place where eqality reigns.
I’m not a democrat. I’m not a republican. I’m just someone who thinks it’s ridiculous that we live in a country where a president who tries to bring affordable healthcare to all is considered anti-American whilst others believe denying equal human rights to every citizen is patriotic. Future generations will judge us for our ignorance.
I think we should demand that JCPenney close their stores in North Carolina. That will show if they really support the gay community.
Move the convention. Enough of Theocracy in the United States of America. Leave the Bible Belt to its own evil, divisive, hateful, bigoted devices.
Hey y’all! I just cancelled my planned vacation in Charlotte. I encourage you all to do the same.
And remember to click through and sign the petition as well as leaving a comment here!
Is there any organized attempt too boycott North Carolina??
Move the convention or lose my support.
Hey North Carolina it’s 2012 not 1963…move the convention
Denying a tenth of the population its civil rights, just so frightened people can have an illusion of security in their own marriages (and as long as adultery and divorce are legal, that’s exactly what it is), or based on the majority’s religious beliefs, does nothing but breed hate and division. We live in a nation of secular laws. Move the convention to a place that respects the human rights and dignity of all people, regardless of sexual orientation.
Mecklenburg County, which includes Charlotte, voted 54% against and 46% for the amendment. So, moving the DNC convention would primarily harm those that opposed the anti-gay amendment.
You all know, I’m sure, that it’s probably too late in the calendar to move something the size of the DNC convention. That said, I sure wish we could swap the RNC Convention, in Tampa, for the DNC convention in NC! EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!!
My sentiment is with you 100%, but I believe with the convention so close it would be impossible to move the venue and cancel the dozens of contracts for travel, lodging, catering, etc.. Our money, time, and energy will be much better spent in making sure that Obama is re-elected.
Move it.
Anti-gay and anti-Union=Move the Convention. There are no Democratic values in North Carolina. No more excuses as every wrong action or inaction reinforces my belief that the Democrats want my votes and my money but without the guts to stand up for what I believe in and who I am.
Hit North Carolina where it hurts, their pocket books. Do not hold the convention there. If they want my donation and support then they will move it.
The DNC will not get 1 cent.
This kind of xenophobia is why I left North Carolina in the first place. It’s well out of hand. I am sorely disappointed in my roots today. Move the Con.
Democrats SAY they stand for civil rights, yet NC just took a huge step back in that fight..move the convention!
Already signed it as has my husband. I hope the DNC will see fit to move its convention in the wake of this unconstitutional travesty. So tired of the haters and these votes. This needs to be addressed on a national level. Just disgusting.
DNC should only use union facilities in union states.
Why keep the convention in NC? That would be rewarding bad behavior. We will take it right here in Oregon, one of the most progessive states in the USA!
F NC.
It worked!
If this is the only issue you care about, please by all means pull the convention out of North Carolina. If you are that narrow minded and this is the only issue you are basing your vote on in November then I do not want you in my state. Don’t you think that the thinking was that this election will be won in the swing states and just maybe Obama and the DNC thought this might help him get NC’s 15 electoral votes.
Until the DNC sees that contributions will suffer, they will not move the convention.
Stop contributing. Boycott NC. Bring about real change. Move the convention!
Let’s spend our money in states that don’t legislate hate.
And for those that live in backwards NC…..sorry, but move out! Show there are consequences!
The convention isn’t moving anywhere. Obama won North Carolina in 2008 and the Democrats are going to fight for it.
klemn… that’s cute that you think North Carolina is a swing state…. it’s a Republican swing state that is it’s a soft republican state IE it swings to the right it doesn’t have enough blue to be purple just light red…. I could probably keep making metaphors but I suppose you get the point by now that your not in a swing state just pale light red and even if NC was a swing state…. Florida and Pennsylvania are still the important swing states… Pennsylvania which should be an easy win to Obama considering they gave him a large breadth of numbers for his first election, and then another swing state Virginia has gotten sick of governor genital probe, I mean ultrasound, I mean McDonnel which is a likely victory for Obama the final swing state of great notice is Florida who commands nearly double the electoral weight as NC… So no the gay issue isn’t my only issue but seeing as how Obama is handling things fairly well, and we are making a recovery economically that leaves mostly social issues to debate. So I believe we can conclude that the democratic party doesn’t need NC unless NC divides it’s electoral vote in which case Obama could get SOME of the votes in NC but if they’re winner take all NC is worthless to Obama and the democratic party for reelection purposes.
Andvétr, just the same I think we’re going to fight for North Carolina. Anyhow, I would expect that most people willing to cart around these petitions dropped them after today’s announcement.
Edward by all means do! Last year Obama did win NC which I found baffling since NC is mostly red but I have a feeling he’ll be loosing it this year but never know till you try eh.
If you can not handle gay marriage, you can not handle the Democratic party.
You know Lilarose 1941, Oregon has a similar amendment banning marriage equality in its constitution, it just passed a long time ago. You can find just reasons to avoid probably half of the states in the union because of obnoxious legal impositions on women, LGBT people, working people, or cultural racism, etc.. The Democratic Party continues moving to be in sync with the aspirations of women, people of color and LGBTs to name a few. For anyone to say they won’t support the party because of a prearranged silly convention being held in NC is being beyond childish and beyond reactionary. Good gawd friends, let’s grow up. This kind of crap just feeds into the Republicons’ hands.
Before looking at moving the convention out of NC, at least look at the other states that have passed similar amendments.
Your choices may be getting a bit slim.
Don’t give a dime until the DNC moves the Convention!!!!!!!!!!!
The DNC should definitely move the convention. Holding it in NC sends the wrong message, both to the state and to the Nation. “Business as Usual” is definitely NOT what this country needs in the face of this kind of bigotry.
For those who demand tolerance you certainly don’t give it to those who differ in opinion. Having said that and being from NC, I would love the DNC to pull out bc I don’t all the extra slime any closer!!! Realistically it is too late. They will come to worship at the altar that is Obama….enjoy it while it lasts.
