Amanda wrote about this morning’s news that, for the first time in history, the majority of babies born in the United States are not white, anticipating that once conservatives start reacting to it, we’re going to see some blatant, undisguised racism. Well, here’s Roger Schlafly, son of Phyllis, and his screed reads like a lament. An uneducated, racist lament:
For decades, the NY Times has been promoting immigration policies that heavily favored a huge influx of non-whites. Today’s lead story brags:
WASHINGTON — After years of speculation, estimates and projections, the Census Bureau has made it official: White births are no longer a majority in the United States.
Non-Hispanic whites accounted for 49.6 percent of all births in the 12-month period that ended last July, according to Census Bureau data made public on Thursday, while minorities — including Hispanics, blacks, Asians and those of mixed race — reached 50.4 percent, representing a majority for the first time in the country’s history.
The article goes on to quote experts who say that this is a wonderful thing, except for the facts that the Hispanic immigrants are uneducated and do not vote Democrat often enough.
It is not a good thing. The immigrants do not share American values, so it is a good bet that they will not be voting Republican when they start voting in large numbers.
“The immigrants” don’t “share American values,” therefore they won’t vote Republican. Aside from the fact that the modern Republican party is pretty much the antithesis of anything resembling “American values,” I like how he assumes that all non-white babies are “immigrants,” that they’re some monolithic “other.” It’s handy when wingnuts don’t sugarcoat their hatred.
The USA is being transformed by immigrants who do not share those values [Ozzie and Harriet or something], and who have high rates of illiteracy, illegitimacy, and gang crime, and they will vote Democrat when the Democrats promise them more food stamps.
In short, white people are wonderful and all immigrant babies are going to vote for Democrats, because food stamps, while participating in gang crime. Does anyone else sense that Roger Schlafly’s various prejudices are getting mixed together in his brain, resulting in this grand, poorly constructed word salad?
Anyhow, expect more panicky racism as word gets out about this.

So now they’ll start screaming about how the US is drowning in a tidal wave of dirty brown people while at the same time courting those dirty brown people to join them against “teh gayz.” Will their heads finally, FINALLY explode, I wonder? Hope springs eternal.
Poor bigots. Life must be rough when you anticipate no longer being in the majority.

They’re deathly afraid of being treated the same way *they* treated minorities through the centuries.
A bigot *cannot* fathom the fact the Constitution’s guarantees protect *them* from discrimination as well!
I use this scenario regarding laws based on sexual orientation and gender identity when I do guest lectures for local college and university classes.
It’s like the joke “homophobia is the fear that gay men will treat you the same way you treat women”.
