So, this happened. Fred Karger, who is still running for President as a gay Republican, went campaigning in Utah, and though his welcome was described as “rough,” his meeting with the Republican party chairman in Washington County, Willie Billings, was described as “friendly”:

Souvenirs! See, that’s nice. But guess who didn’t like it? Willie’s wife is who. Nanette. And oh no, no, Nanette* is not having any of this malarkey about “gay Republicans” with their frisbees and and t-shirts. “My feeling is the only reason he’s running for president is to find more [sexual] partners,” Nanette Billings told Yahoo News in a phone interview. “To get more people on his bandwagon.”

Even though I am a hard core card carrying Democrat,I do admire, respect and sympathize with Karger who continues to speak out in light of much adversity. No one should be treated like him and this is moslty from folks inside his own party. He is very courageous to continue. The bigger picture for me is I will never understand how and why anyone from the GBLT community can be Republican or vote Republican. I understand that this woman’s comments are pretty far to the right, but most Repulicans are not inclusive of any minority and especially anyone that is GBLT.
