Anti-gay leaders are so narcissistic. They really envision the fight for marriage equality as some sort of epic spiritual warfare, wherein they will become martyrs for the faith or something. It’s bizarre, especially considering the fact that literally no one on the pro-gay side wants to take anything away from people like Pastor Jim Garlow and his followers. Toward the end of this video, Garlow says that he’s willing to die for this cause. Drama queen.

Thank you, Pat! Exactly. Garlow is using dramatic, inflammatory words, but words are words and deeds will always matter.
Christians like himself like to think they are at war, with an invisible enemy. With non threatening people they say threaten everything. With people they defame, and when such defamation is countered, Garlow, et al, call it being ‘anti Christian’.
These are people used to their power and influence gained by fear and ignorance and untaxed money, then try to claim to be victims of more vulnerable gay people who have none of that.
The more dramatic hyperbole they use, tilting at windmills, the crazier and stupid they sound.
If not impossibly hypocritical and contradictory.
There is no depth to the false claims, lying or outrageous demands they make to be the most favored in the nation.
No, the aim is hardly to be martyrs or take any risks or suffer any for their cause.
But to continue to humiliate, force into inferior status and make human sacrifices of gay people.
Let him keep pounding his narrow chest, at something that doesn’t exist in the first place and never did.
Always with “the Bible” to justify their bigotry. That very same book of his precious bible always condemns eating shellfish as an “abomination” but you don’t see him ready to “die” to take down Red Lobster. The bible also gives a thumbs up to owning slaves, genocide and murdering your neighbor if he insists on working Sundays.
If he thinks that the bible defines marriage as ‘one man, one woman’ then is he ignoring Abraham (3 wives), David (18+ wives), Jacob (4 wives), Moses (2 wives), and many others?
I blame all this on Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and the granddaddy of the mega church himself, Oral Roberts. These men have turned Christianity on its head, taking what is supposed to be a religion of peace, love, forgiveness, and reconciliation, and recasting it in terms of “spiritual warfare” that have a distinctly Old Testament ring to them and, I suspect, represent a way of overcompensating for their own fears and inadequacies. Fundamentalists of any religion tend to be deeply insecure and fearful people. As to his professed “willingness to die [for the cause],” it is easy enough to say such a thing when he knows g*****n well there’s no chance of that ever happening; the worst thing he’ll ever face is simply being written off as a lunatic and therefore irrelevant.
Garlow & his ilk are the first to claim that they are being ‘bullied’& that their ‘religious liberty’ is being threatened & then they sign things like the Manhattan Declaration or come out blustering like James Dobson who cries out that he will pay taxes that might go to abortion over his dead body, yet they are the biggest bunch of babies & whiners, crumbling every time they imagine they might not get their way. What losers.
I don’t think this guy knows his Bible very well, or history for that matter. And what’s with the straw man argument of 2+ spouses? It’s not even related and is about as good an argument as the “slipper slope”.
I cannot wait till gay marriage is legalized. I think I’ll marry my mate and fax him a copy of the license with the words “Is your marriage so weak that mine threatens it?”
Well, we’re all going to die some day. But in this country it is the LBGT people who are being attacked for who they are, not the “Christians.” And if he really, really is a Christian, how come he doesn’t refer to what Jesus said about same sex marriage. I quote verbatim the words of Jesus in the New Testament: “……….”
Marriage, biblical marriage has always been one man, one woman? Really? What bible is he reading? Or is he forgetting all those Godly men who had hundreds, thousands of wives?
Its funny the christianists never quote Jesus’ “turn the other cheek”, “walk with them two miles” and “Love your enemies and do good to those who hate you” or Paul’s “Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not be defrauded?”. They much prefer Constantine’s militaristic, church (and Empire) triumphant approach which has been dutifully passed down the ages through popes and papacies until it finds it modern day devotees in protestant fundagelicalism, among others.
If these people could only hear themselves.
