Christian author John Shore translates and repudiates the latest godtalk of Exodus International president Alan Chambers.
We like it A LOT when John does our work for us.
Example:
“We encourage people to continue believing that being gay is incompatible,” says Mr. Chambers, “with being in a relationship with Christ.” The difference between that and “God Hates Fags” is the difference between a pig and a pig wearing a graduation cap.
Another example:
Is a problem for the church that it’s not famous enough? What a weird thing to say. Much less weird—and certainly a good deal more problematic—is Chambers’s casual, almost sublimely arrogant assertion that Exodus’s attitude toward gay people is indistinguishable from Jesus’.
Here I must disagree with John. Exodus’ attitude isn’t just problematic: It’s blasphemous.

While anti-gay activist Chambers is certainly entitledd to his own pro-homophobia interpretations of the Bible, having a relationship with God is not contingent on Chambers’ opinions. He is not God, does not speak for God and is not authorized to choose whom Jesus saves. As a Christian gay man, I rebuke him for his pride and arrogance and remind him that we should be worrying about our own sins.
I honestly don’t care what he thinks theologically. I disagree with most of the planet on various issues of faith. A harsh or arrogant stance on scripture will just marginalize them further. I think it’s wrong, but they are entitled to their own opinion there. Scientific fact is where the opinions must stop being offered over reality.
