Last week, the National Council of La Raza, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights group, came out in support of marriage equality. You know how the Religious Right, and conservatives in general, always like to extol the “socially conservative values” of Latinos and African-Americans, and co-opt them whenever they can? Yeah, that’s all a smokescreen. Check out Robert Knight’s reaction when a minority group doesn’t do what the Religious Right wants. Reacting to La Raza’s endorsement:
“When it comes down to it, the left hangs together,” he says. “The National Council of La Raza is a radical, left-wing group posing as a civil rights group for Hispanic Americans — but it’s anything but [that]. Its very name, [which means in Spanish] “The Race,’ indicates that it’s race-obsessed. That it has teamed up with a homosexual activist group is not surprising. They help each other’s agendas, and that agenda is to undermine real civil rights enjoyed by all Americans and replace them with minority and sexual minority quota-type civil rights that are imposed on everybody else.”
Oh, boo-hoo, Robert. Everybody is leaving you and yours behind. Deal with it.

Tell me again how this gay rights movement is not like the civil rights movement which was all about race. Tell me again how being gay is not like being a racial minority. Oh wait… You cant after that statement can you. Dumbass.
La Raza does support illegal immigration, as do apparently, members of the LGBT.
For reasons I understand, since it’s extremely difficult for foreign born LGBT to get the same consideration, or stay with their significant others if in a binational relationship.
I have cautioned by gay friends about this and the differences in illegal and legal immigration and the inherent ethics questions within it.
Cesar Chavez was a very strong and irrefutable voice against ILLEGAL immigration.
So be careful of strange bedfellows, my friends.
I think Robert Knight is a boil. But Cesar Chavez certainly knew of what he spoke and why.
With you there, Lynus.
Robert Knight IS a dumbass, but bigotry makes people lose IQ points. If he ever had them to begin with.
Oh and if anyone wants to have the conversation about illegal immigration and civil rights. Let’s have it.
Because a lot of important facts regarding ETHICS, condescension and low expectations is in play on this.
And the proper contexts and articulating what’s expected of immigrants is getting seriously lost. There are more emotions involved than more complex consideration of what illegal immigrants are doing.
The difference than say, an individual that is abiding by all the rules as everyone else, and STILL is abused. As opposed to individuals who refuse to abide by the same rules others must, and benefiting from doing so.
The right and wrong there, is something that cannot be dismissed because of the emotions involved.
Dr. King once said that the means must be as pure as the ends.
Certain advocate groups have lost that message too.
But I’m concerned about what happens when suspect minorities accept certain things that might further compromise trust.
A fair and necessary conversation.
