Anderson Cooper acknowledged to Andrew Sullivan at The Daily Beast that he is gay. Anderson has consistently had great reporting on LGBT issues, so his official coming out was never pressing — still it is great to have him on record because he is an outstanding role model for young people. Here is what he said to Sullivan:
“The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.
I have always been very open and honest about this part of my life with my friends, my family, and my colleagues. In a perfect world, I don’t think it’s anyone else’s business, but I do think there is value in standing up and being counted. I’m not an activist, but I am a human being and I don’t give that up by being a journalist.”
Cooper may have swam with great white sharks as a journalist on 60 Minutes — but they were nothing compared to the right wing sharks that will attack him. But, the LGBT community and our allies will have his back so he can continue doing what he does best — serving as a top notch news reporter.

In other news, water is wet.
It’s funny that the LGBT Community is selective in who’s backs they cover. They don’t get everybody’s back and I have the scars to prove it.
I think that it is great he finally came out. We should not hold people too harshly accountable for their apprehensions about “coming out”. After all most of us who have come out did so with great reservations. So congrats Anderson on leaving the closet!
Good for him. Even if it was the worst kept secret around I think this is a great, positive move. He was always very supportive of gay rights so it’s not like he was working against us. He has nothing to apologize for.
shocked…all of us in Atlanta are just shocked, shocked I say.
Well, eye roll aside, Daniel is right. Good for him, and for us. As it happens, yeah, I do know a couple of people, straight and gay, who wondered if he was ‘in the closet’, albeit a glass one, out of fear or shame. He has put those questions to rest.
I truly wish TWO would follow up with the 200 Social Scientists who have send in a blistering Objection Letter to the Journal Social Science Research on the “Science for HATE Research” by Mark Regnerus falsely saying gays make bad parents.
This is not going away and in fact the FAKE American College of Pediatrics (200 members) on the exact same day this research was published filed an Amicus Brief in Golinski vs OPM quoting this research. They falsely claim gay COUPLES make bad parents. This is now in our Federal Courts and viewed by 3 Appellate Judges. Here is a sortable file that shows you who these heavy hitters are who are objecting.
This is a very good file which shows you the heavy hitters who sent that strong Objection Letter to the Journal Social Science Research
Scott I suggest you add a link to this File which is sortable and clearly shows the heavy hitters who signed this Blistering Objection Letter to the Journal Social Science Research

Hey TWO maybe you can call some of these people who signed and get some quotes, I would love to hear what they think.
Sorry for the interruption… Yeah Anderson :)
[...] Porno Pete’s reaction to Anderson Cooper’s coming out: [...]
@SG – the letter was a damning indictment of the peer review process of Social Science Research journal and a blistering critique of the sample grouping methodology used. The ACP amicus brief refers to ‘same-sex couples’ throughout and only to same-sex couples as having bad outcomes. The study DID NOT study same-sex couples. It studied households where an adult reports a parent having a at least one same sex romantic relationship. The Regnerus study DID NOT study the impact of sexual orientation on parenting. There was NO like for like comparison of married straight with long-term/married/partnered lesbian or gay.
Nothing can be gleaned from this other than that marriage is likely to be beneficial to children regardless of sexuality.
I am very angry. Expect more of this ‘correlation measurement’ posing as scientific enquiry – globally.
Yay Anderson, more gays in responsible positions in all industries shoul come so America will realize that we involved in all aspects of all American dreams and should have. All the rights entitled to everyone and sexual orientation has nothing to do with being a good citizen. Anderson maybe this will encourage others to be open about their sexual oriention. RWJ
This is not news — I like him and do not care about anyone’s sexual preferences. It is what inside that matters. I have no idea what he is like personally – but he is a good TV reporter.
Bettye gay men do not have a sexual preference, they have a sexual orientation. There is no “preference” or choice involved.
Awesome.
Glad to hear it. God bless Anderson Cooper and protect him from the evil anti-gay activist “Christians” who will now attack and revile him.
I always find it strange when people take the time to post on a message board that they don’t care about something.
Good for Anderson. He can live more honestly now.
Anderson Cooper is a SUPERB reporter—one of the best I’ve seen in my lifetime and I’m 79. If the right wing wolves go on the attack, I expect there should be a HUGE backlash from all segments of Americans who appreciate his excellent reporting and delightful personality.
Thank you Anderson.
The best part of this is that we have one more important voice supporting our causes “GOOD FOR YOU Mr Anderson!!”
We now have a great celebrity hat we know will support our cause, “good for you Mr Anderson”
