No word on why he’s willing to acknowledge that humanity has matured beyond the biblical writers in understanding that slavery is wrong, yet insists that they got it completely right on homosexuality, which is condemned in the Bible far less often than slavery is supported. Other Religious Right luminaries are free to answer that question as well, because, as Dan Savage has quite rightfully pointed out, the Bible is an objectively pro-slavery document, and it’s not just in the Old Testament.

I never knew what the 700 stood for. Now I believe it means they’re still living in 700 AD.
More like 700 BC. Religion is a human invention. There is no other explanation for its distorted and twisted view points. One example is “the four corners of the world” as in the planet is flat. You would think the Deity would know that the planet is round and would have educated His disciples. You would have been stoned to death for “blasphemy” has you believed the world was round back in those days. That “bright shining light from above” just wasn’t “bright” enough.
Founded as a Christian Nation- nonsense. They convince themselves of that so they can feel so much better than those they don’t like.
So, we’ve “evolved” to a point where we appreciate the value of human beings and this forbids slavery. Well, why was it God’s will to enslave people in The Old Testament (which you’ll notice Pat emphasizes) and in the more modern world, but not now? I haven’t heard anything about God changing his mind. That then requires one to ask: Why do you still use the Old Testament to condemn gay people to second class citizenship and worse? If the value of all human beings has been realized. then why are you so down on us? You hypocrite! That book is the most dangerous book ever written simply because of HOW it is used.
