I just wanted to express my personal support for Chick-Fil-A. If interested I hear that Mike Huckabee is having a Support Chick-Fil-A Day next Wednesday August 1st.
Displayed prominently above Chambers’ statement is a photograph of the self-proclaimed “ex-gay” with Donald M. (“Bubba”) Cathy, Chick-fil-A senior vice president, smiling proudly. The restaurant’s charitable arm, the WinShape Foundation, helps fund Exodus International and its anti-gay propaganda.
Alan Chambers supports one of the most homophobic companies in America? “I’m surprised!” said no one, ever.

Jack has clearly articulated the true fear of those who oppose gay rights. Their only understanding of homosexuality comes from stories of Sodom and the Roman Empire. They fear the wrath of God. From that viewpoint, I can see why they’re so worked up. They need to be educated about the origins of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. They need to be educated about the role of homosexual activity in Ancient Rome. They need to understand that homosexuality in modern times cannot be directly compared to cultural norms in ancient times. They need to be reassured that the U.S. is not Sodom, the U.S. is not Ancient Rome. None of us want it to be.

oh, and Priya is right about the ridiculous use of the word “lifestyle”. I have two good friends…one lost his leg trying to save a buddy after an IED in Afghanistan. He and his husband, a US Marine, life a lifestyle of service defending your right to a relgious lifestyle of fanatacism and lack of education. Another friend, a lesbian, is a teacher, a strong environmentalist, and peace activist. She lives a simple life, with no frills, and gives generously to charity…always quietly. That is a lifestyle. Being gay is not a lifestyle. That is just a code word desperate fundys try to use (and are failing at ) to convince people that somehow we choose to be gay. People see through it now.
Go read some barna (a conservative evangelical pollster and data gatherer) and get an education.

You can do EVERYTHING within your power to have legislation passed until the cows come home, but it takes a “heart transplant” to repair what is on the “inside” of people and you will never FORCE a “heart transplant” and/or “acceptance.” You will only serve to cause those who oppose you for your lifestyle to actually hate you (not like you all “claim” is the issue now) and alienate you further, but I guess you don’t care about HOW people feel, only that you get your own way and WHAT you want.
In the 60′s and 70′s TRUE racism (against blacks) was prevalent especially in the south and legislation FORCED people to stop their attacks etc and basically tolerate those who were not “white,” but legislation did NOT create a “change of heart.”
