I CAN’T agree with the comment I see here (7) about “not wanting gays to use Chick-fil-A, so he won’t have to stand in line with them”.
But I feel the hateful comments by a Burlington VT man, Wayn Besen, that the owner is spreading hate toward gays, is untrue. If you have the right to be gay and believe in the right for gays to marry, then we have the right NOT to believe that.
You, of course may not believe what God words state in His book, but marrage is between one man and one woman…..

John Pedone,
Years ago people used to have bumper stickers on their cars saying: “God said it, I believe it and that settles it.” A few times when I saw such cars parked in parking lots, I wrote notes I slipped under the windshield wipers saying: “Your sign should read ‘I believe God said it, and that settles it.’”
You may believe you are following the “TRUE WORD of God,” but that doesn’t mean what you believe is the “TRUE WORD of God.” As you have undoubtedly learned from reading the Bible, there are many forms of marriage in its pages.
@ John Pedone– firstly, there are all kind of relationships and marriages mentioned in the Bible. Remember the man after G-d’s own heart, King David. He had many wives and his Soloman had 700 wives. Abraham was married to sister. Then there’s concubines, prostitutes (like Rehab the righteous prostitute)and slaves who did sexual favours.
Secondly, how dare you presume to be the only person of faith and presume G-d favours you over us! G-d is no respecter of people. I have as much right to the throne of grace as you do.
The Bible say,”Who can say they love G-d whom they can’t see and hate their neighbour whom they can see.”

John, you talk about support for gay marriage and opposition to gay marriage as though the beliefs are morally equivalent – they aren’t. They are the equivalent of believing blacks and whites are equals and believing blacks are inferior to whites and don’t deserve the same rights. The belief that blacks or gays are inferior is immoral.

You have the right to believe whatever the hell you want to and we aren’t making your faith in the TRUE WORD of God a political issue. Chick-Fil-A made it a political issue when they donated a shitload of money to enshrine their religious beliefs into law. And they keep making it a political issue with all their rhetoric against us. We didn’t pick this particular battle, Chick-Fil-A did.
You are still free to believe whatever fairytale drivel you want to but you are NOT free to use your silly superstitions to deny us our rights. We will keep fighting and we will win.
Oh, and sorry to burst your little bubble about the TRUE WORD of God. God didn’t write the bible, men did.

I believe that Wayne Besen is misguided regarding the amount of Christian, Catholics in this country. Catholics are in the millions and we all believe in the bible. Marriage is a religious ceremony between a man and a woman. It is not a right. Do not assume that the majority of Americans feel the way you do. I have two gay family members who are gay and very religious and they don’t push the issue because they believe in the bible and realize that marriage is a religious ceremony between a man and a woman. They each have had their own ceremonies and have all the rights as any other couple.
Please do not speak for me in the future.

Vanessa, marriage existed long before any religion, like christmas and Easter religion has dishonestly laid claim to something that doesn’t belong to it.
The U.S. supreme court in Loving vs Virginia ruled that marriage is a right. Anyone who does not have the right to marry does not have “all the rights as any other couple”. In fact, a majority of Americans does support the right of gays to marry. If you were deprived of such a right you most certainly wouldn’t sit back and keep quiet and say “that’s fine.”. You are a hateful hypocrite.

So Vanessa, how many wives and concubines does your husband have?
Also, I’m betting your gay family members don’t talk about it to you because they know you’re a bigot and don’t want to get into it with you. And no matter where they live they don’t have the same rights as any other couple because this country discriminates against gay couples even if they’re married (you do know about DOMA right?)
And who is trying to speak for you? You make yourself sound stupid all by yourself.

Vanessa, if you want to get married, where do you go for a license? To your church? No, you go to the city hall or county courthouse. If you get married in a church service without a marriage license, does the state recognize your marriage? No. Why not? Marriage in our society is regulated by the state, not by the church. Can you get married if you are an atheist? Yes. Can you divorce and remarry in a civil ceremony even if the church does not recognize your divorce as valid? Yes.
In other words, though for many people in this country there is a religious element to marriage, marriage as an institution is not a church institution. It is a civil institution.
Do your reputed gay family members have the same civil rights as any legally married member of your family because they went through their own ceremonies? Not if they were not marriage legally. And if they were married legally in a state or country that allows same sex civil marriages, they do not have the same legal federal rights if they live in the United States due to the Defense of Marriage Act.
So in summary, Vanessa, you are dead wrong and don’t know what you are talking about.
[...] fats so that they can gesture with their hands, over the fact that CNN reported on Sarah Palin showing up for a few thousand calories of Bigot Chicken with her husband Tahhhd by playing “Stupid [...]
Vanessa, I am not evil.
I am a Christian who does not believe in the commandment “Oopsie, I screwed up when I was making some people and they came out wrong; be a lamb and take My mistake out on them, woulja?” but does believe “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
I know we’ve already covered the false witness thing, but I was mostly referring to the outright falsehood that everybody knows is an outright lie and nobody would ever believe that your family members have the same civil rights as everybody else (while specifically discussing civil rights they do not have–you didn’t really think that lie through, did you?).
Do NOT speak for me again.
