In an apparent bid to shore up Mitt Romney’s support among white Southern evangelicals (a constituency that, I must confess, I thought Mitt already had in his pocket), a Super PAC with ties to Gary Bauer released an ad depicting a white, opposite-sex couple who voted for President Obama in 2008 but are switching their allegiances in 2012 because of the President’s support for marriage equality. Hunter Walker from Politicker reports:
In the commercial, which is entitled “New Morning,” a couple wakes up to coffee and the threat of legalized same sex marriage as they peruse the morning paper.
“Obama is trying to force gay marriage on this country. That’s not the change I voted for. Marriage is between a man and a woman. That’s not the change I voted for,” one of them says,
“That’s not the change I voted for either,” the other agrees.
The ad closes with a narrator advising the couple to ward off this potential onslaught of married gay couples by voting “for someone with values” as the words “VOTE ROMNEY/RYAN” appear on the screen.
The ad, which you can watch below, is currently airing in North Carolina. Walker contacted Bauer and the treasurer of his Super PAC to ask whether the ad was airing anywhere else, but received no response. However, since the group’s latest FEC filings show that it has $760,000 in cash on hand, I’m expecting this anti-gay ad, or others like it, to crop up in other key swing states across the country.

Am I the only one who thinks the actor playing the husband is a homosexual?
Dear Gods, what a puerile, facile, amaturish attempt to sway public opinion. Republicans remind me of a giant, petulant baby trying to hide the handwriting on the wall by smearing every surface within reach with its loaded diaper. STFU already, Bauer. Everyone knows that only a self-destructive closet-case would sink this much effort into a topic which otherwise holds no concern for any staight man who has an actual life and productive career.
“Values” aside, talk about Golden-Razzy-caliber acting.
The Republican platform is holding to their bet that the majority of Americans are as ignorant, hateful, backward and un-educated as the conservative right wing, radical, backward, Republican voters.
They are betting that the American People are stupid enough to believe that the Republicans actually give a damn about liberty. Liberty and Freedom the RIGHT of EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN CITIZEN- Means that EVERY American has the RIGHT OF CHOICE. It means that women are NOT Property and a woman’s life and choice OUGHT not be legislated. It means the right of freedom to love, freedom to think-freedom to travel-freedom of speech. AS a Director- I MUST say this lack of talent runs in the republican line. Regan couldn’t act either.
This is a nation founded on the principles of liberty and freedom. WE are no there yet – but we are closer. We as Americans can NEVER allow Romney and this Republican platform to legislate their hate.
It doesn’t look like gay couples marrying has affected their marriage. Kind of odd how they don’t even bother to make a case that marriage equality is harmful.
It was also strange that the conclusion was to vote for Romney, who switches his positions every 15 seconds, and Paul Ryan who gave the most dishonest convention speech since democracy was invented in ancient Greece.
Yes, Ken, I agree. That husband is SO gay…
b******s! this add sucks!
ignore the fact that i forgot how to spell ad.
This was one of the most bigoted ads I have ever seen, and a complete lie. Obama said he believed that same sex couples should be allowed to marry. He stated it as his belief. Nowhere has he tried to make it law. He has not even proposed such law for all states. How has he forced it on people? Who will be forced to have a gay marriage who does not want one? Gays should have the right to marry, and that effects me how? Oh wait, it’s doesn’t. No one has proposed forcing a straight person to support gay marriage. Giving others the same rights as yourself is not forcing anything on you. It’s good to see this video is losing horribly on youtube lol. The modern Republican mentality is finished, it’s dying more and more everyday.
I’m so sick of politicians using our LIVES as political footballs..
