As quoted in today’s New York Times:
“I’m in the party of Abraham Lincoln — I’m very proud of that. I’m not in a party of a bunch of right-wing nitwits. It’s Abraham Lincoln. It’s everybody’s included. And I feel that’s very important.”
– State Senator Roy J. McDonald, a Republican, who is fending off a challenge from homophobe Kathleen Marchione, who is running a divisive campaign against McDonald’s vote for marriage equality in New York
This race is one of many critical contests to show whether a GOP vote in favor of marriage affects the prospects of reelection. The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) claims it will doom the hopes of McDonald and two other brave Republicans who defied the party’s litmus test conservatives. If NOM is wrong, as we hope they are, it will embolden more mainstream conservatives to defy the ayatollahs and ideologues on the extreme fringe of the Republican Party.

Sorry Senator McDonald. Time has passed you by. You’ve awakened after 35 years to find the party of Lincoln is now the party of Jefferson Davis.
“I’m not in a party of a bunch of right-wing nitwits”.
BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ WRONG!
Senator McDonald is just to our north — while a Republican, he is a reasonable and respectful man to all people. While Marchioness victory in the primary (I have met her and colleagues who live in Saratoga county could tell you very negative things about her), would probably give the seat to the Dems, I still hope for McDonald’s victory. NOM is trying a “stealthy” thing though – emailing everyone they “think” is a supporter to tell them to be sure to vote if they are in her district.
