This is what the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told Piers Morgan:
“Do you believe that anyone is giving birth through homosexuality? Homosexuality ceases procreation. Who has said that if you like or believe in doing something ugly, and others do not accept your behavior, that they’re denying your freedom? … Proper education must be given. If a group recognizes an ugly behavior or ugly deed as legitimate, you must not expect other countries or other groups to give it the same recognition.”
Like most people, I hope we can avoid war with Iran. Bombing this nation would rally the population behind an unpopular and oppressive regime of tyrants. The United States already has enough on its hands without another Middle East battle — which will shed more blood and cost more treasure. It will put Israel in the path of a flood of missiles, as well as its Arab neighbors that are US allies. If war can be avoided, that would be best for all parties involved, no doubt about it.
That said, I can’t imagine letting unbalanced holocaust denying, gay-hating fiends like the zealots who lead Iran have access to nuclear bombs. Their Medieval minds simply can’t be trusted to act rationally — and all one has to do is listen to Ahmadinejad for five minutes to realize he’s a bit loopy.
Now, if we are forced to bomb Iran’s nuclear labs — which, again, I want to stress is undesirable on so many levels — I just want to say for the record that I hope that this arrogant and bigoted creep meets the same fate as Saddam Hussein. The world will be a better and safer place without Ahmadinejad’s corrosive and contemptible presence on the international stage.
He truly is the face of evil.

If he’s not the face of evil, can we refer to him as the face of really unattractive?
The only emotional difference between this guys face and the Pope’s, is the sleazy Pope’s can-I-stick-it-in-just-a-little-bit-further psycho smile.
Ben…….thx for the good morning laugh.
I just unsubscribed from your fee. I’m ashamed to even be associated with an organization that claims to be spreading the truth who would even think about discussing bombing another country just because someone does not see truth as you see it. If you want to pick up a stick and go over there and beat someone with it have at it. What a joke you become by stooping to this level. I can not begin to tell you how disappointed I am and how much this has corrupted your message.
The pope is not trying to get a nuclear bomb. There is no comparison between the dangers represented by the Vatican and Iran.
Joe, you are the joke if you are so blind to reality.
Joe — I couldn’t care less if you have unsubscribed.
Goodbye.
That you have the nerve to tell people that they shouldn’t “even think” something about a country that so happens to despise gays, denies the holocaust, and talks about wiping a country off the map — shows a lack of realism. And I don’t appreciate anyone telling me that I’m not allowed to think about something and have a discussion. If you want to dictate thoughts — I completely agree that this is the wrong website for you. Go find a site that agrees with you 100% of the time — until they don’t — and then you can tell them what they can’t think and unsubscribe from them too.
Joe, I made it quite and unmistakeably clear to those with reading comprehension skills that I believe any military option is a last resort. I laid out why it must be a last resort and why it is not an attractive option. However, the idea of a nation with leaders who hold such beliefs having access to operative nuclear weapons is also rather troubling — and should be to you as well.
So, I’m not quite sure what your tantrum is about — other than a strong and infantile desire that people conform to your views at all times. Given your position, I’m quite certain you are disappointed quite often in life.
Iran’s President may have a right to His opinion, but to inflict His beliefs on Iran’s citizens or anyone is a crime. Procreation is not the purpose that humans were created, for it alone serves no function, and plenty of other species are capable of procreation.
you’re welcome.
He really is thugly.
Ahmadinejad is a disgusting uggo inside and out. Anyone who voices concern about the procreation of the race should be immediately suspect. Either what they REALLY fear is that THEIR ‘race’ or religion is dying out while all the others are growing, or they have an obsession with controlling sex and imposing a wacko agenda based on fairy tales…in this nut’s case he wants to control sex in the name of the Islamic patriarchic model for society. In the USA it’s the christofascists who want to do this along the lines of their ‘judeo-christian’ model. What’s ridiculous is how many idiots buy into the species perpetuation meme. The planet is already waaaaaay too crowded!
Wayne, I quite agree that Ahmadinejad is a vile, petulant man and a menace to the Middle East. I also happen to agree that any military actions taken, regardless of their goal, will not end well for those involved.
Contrary to the pablum being spoonfed to the U.S. citizenry, Iran is no Iraq; further, it is no pushover. Iran has a strong and well trained military force and only those with the hubris of another G.W. Bush would believe otherwise.
Finally, Iran itself is quite modern, it’s people surprising liberal minded; the problem lies with Ahmadinejad and the Clerics who run the Theocratic State. Add to this that Iran borders Russia and other key states, an attack could flare into something the U.S. nor Isreal could not contain. Only a geopolitical novice would believe that the U.S. and Isreal are somehow unstoppable or all powerful…….Pride as they say, goeth before the fall. Win the minds and win the peace, stray but a little into a pissing contest and pay the price.
I can only hope he is contained and that saner heads prevail; a military option would be an unmitigated disaster.
I recently read a book entitled “My Sister, Guard Your Veil; My Brother, Guard Your Eyes: Uncensored Iranian Voices” edited by Lila Azam Zanganeh. It is a series of essays written by a cross section of Iranians that humanizes their country and shatters many of the misperceptions Westerners harbor about Iran. Quick read, very interesting, recommended.
Jon:
A military option for the US would be rather easy. As long as we stuck to bombing and not occupying.
The disaster could come in the aftermath. Iran bombs Saudi oil refineries. . The already shaky world economy goes into a tailspin. Israel gets hit hard with missiles in urban centers and from the north from Hezbollah. And the Iranian population in a surge of nationalism rallies around the mullahs, killing the internal reform movement.
For these reasons, the military option is awful on so many levels. But the possibility of a military defeat of vastly superior US forces is not one of my worries. The US spends more on the next 10 militaries combined and this shows in combat. We are still real good at breaking things. Our problems arise in fixing what we break — as we can see in Afghsnistan and Iraq.
He scares me.
Given how racist the American beauty standard is, I’m not going to join in on the looks-bashing of Iran’s mentally benighted president.
I so truly hope we don’t go to full on war in Iran or Pakistan!
Thank you Wayne for your thoughtful blog.
I agree with you that Iran must not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.
It seems obvious to me that a diplomatic breakthrough that would verify Iran’s giving up it weapons program in the next year is highly unlikely.
So the US must prepare for a military response.
I don’t know if an air campaign is best or if ground troops would be needed to clear the weapons.
The alternative is an Iranian nuclear strike on innocent civilians leaving millions of dead, not to mention the harm they can do to our economy.
