Wedding bells rang Saturday in New York City for MSNBC news anchor (and fierce equality advocate) Thomas Roberts and his longtime partner Patrick Abner. The now-husbands exchanged vows in a rooftop ceremony at the Gansevoort Park Hotel officiated by former San Francisco mayor and current California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom. Fabulously out country star Chely Wright serenaded the pair, and noted gay blogger Andy Towle — a friend of the couple — reported that the ceremony also included reflections and poetry from family members.
According to the Huffington Post and Perez Hilton, other wedding guests included Roberts’ MSNBC colleagues Phil Griffin, Tamron Hall, and Chris Jansing, as well as CNN’s Don Lemon and celebrities Aviva Drescher, Meghan McCain, Carson Kressley, and Nate Berkus. As you can see in the photo below, another New York City icon also made an appearance that evening:
With his marriage to Abner, Thomas Roberts became the first cable news personality in history to legally tie the knot with a same-sex spouse. TWO’s John Becker and his husband Michael Knaapen, along with Wayne Besen and husband Jamie Brundage, wish Roberts and Abner joy, success, and a long and happy married life together.
