I'm one of the "nones." I was a Roman Catholic for many years, but left over 25 years ago because of the antipathy/hatred of its leaders toward gay people (of whom I am one). I have been to the emergency room on a couple occasions in those last 25 years, and when I am asked my religious affiliation, I say "none." I certainly have spiritual values, but they don't include a religion. I've had enough of religions for a lifetime.

When I hear religious leaders claim that their religious freedoms are being trampled upon because laws won't enforce their beliefs on the whole of society, I cringe. Those of us who describe ourselves as "none" deserve our freedom from the intrusion of those religious bodies.

We must remember also that the "nones" include many that identify as "spiritual but not religious". Just because someone does not identify with a religious construct does not mean they are non-spiritual.

The fear based religions are losing their grip on the masses as the awakening continues to unfold. I do not believe that those will change or abandon their beliefs but they will either evolve, awaken to their true nature or simply fade away. Just because someone is shouting fear and separation from God does not make them relevant, regardless of which book they are yelling from.
