Yes, Kirk Cameron seriously just likened himself to Jesus. Talk about a messiah complex! From Right Wing Watch:
Kirk Cameron, who compared the backlash to the anti-gay statements he made on Piers Morgan Tonight to the persecution of Puritans in England and being “drug out to the public square and stoned so to speak,” told Liberty University students last week that “blasphemy laws are still alive and well in America” and that his critics tried to “crucify me” because he had “blasphemed the God of Political Correctness.” He said conservative Christians shouldn’t be “wussing out” when confronted by questions about homosexuality and should deliver a message of “truth in love” in order to “see people in a right relationship with God, helped and healed and whole.”
If you’d like to watch Cameron’s woe-is-me remarks, RWW also has video:
Note to Kirk: you’re not some kind of a savior, you’re just a washed-up, bigoted has-been who’s grasping desperately for relevance. Please, climb off of that cross.

What a whining crybaby! He insults us, then bitches and whines when we fight back. This is what these fundies mean when they claim a “war on religion.” For centuries they have been able to dump on people and not get push back. They ignorantly believe that people exercising their free speech rights by calling their actions bigoted and ideas backward is a loss of liberty. They can bash whomever they please, but when people decide not to be pushed around and push back these whiners cry and suddenly shriek “persecution!”
Get used to it Kirk. We will no longer stand by idly and will forever call out your silly ideas for the BS they truly are. Kirk, you started this by shitting on my family. We will finish it.
“Please, climb off of that cross.”……..someone needs the nails and the wood.
It’s National Coming Our Day, Kirk. What are you waiting for?
I’m pretty sure comparing one’s self to the lord is considered blasphemy.
Bigots like him got so used to spewing their hatred and going unchallenged. Now that people are speaking back the bigots are crying “persecution”.
Challenging someone’s views is not persecution nor is it against the constitution. Grow up, quit sniveling and go wipe your nose.
Kirk–I see NOTHING loving in your talk. I see only hate and that is NOT what your lord and savior taught you to say. You hide behind your religion to make your case for your hatred of me and all the rest of the GLBT community. Get real. As an Atheist, I see you as all wet and crazy.
While Kirk is certainly an extremely bigoted Christian wackjob, he’s also extremely cute. That counts for something, doesn’t it?
On a side note, Kirk’s comparison to himself with the Puritans is most apt – the Massachusetts Bay Colony emerged in the 17th century to be a force known to torture and silence all forms of religious dissent.
Has Kirk been denied the right to marry who he chooses? Has he faced being evicted from housing or terminated from a job because of his religion? Has his family disowned him? No? The push back he has received from the LGBTQ community and their allies does not constitute persecution. Yet the hateful rhetoric he spews reinforces the dangerous climate that LGBTQ folks must navigate on a daily basis.
The irony about the Puritans is that when their movement died out, their remnants eventually evolved (yeah, evolved, take that Kirk) into present-day liberal, gay-friendly churches (United Church of Christ, Unitarian Universalism, Presbyterians to an extent)
Is it possible that some of the people he denigrates have convictions, too? Yes, tell those fags,in love, that they are not your equal and are an abomination, and don’t deserve all that you have, etc. Yes, in love, you shall condemn them. That IN LOVE thing has long been their pat-on-the-back nonsense for being ill-mannered, rude, condemnatory, and creepy. One more thing: he complains that he was “drug out to the public square….” Take a refresher course in English, Kirk, the word is “dragged”.
It stands to reason that Liberty Univ. would have him speak to the students – their minds are already kinked with religion. Too bad he’s so cute.
Kirk Cameron is just a Christian, you all are for tolerance right? But why are you not tolerant of Christians and their beliefs? Kirk Cameron has done nothing wrong in his stand for godly principles, and he does so with love…certainly not like the “hate” and “intolerance” I am reading in the above comments…if your beliefs are good and right…why are they not delivered with love?
Sincerely, C.
Chrisi, we’re tolerant of Christians, we have no problem with them living as they choose, having only heterosexual marriages and so on. But asking us to be tolerant of Chrisitians attempt to oppress gays and lesbians is like asking a black person to be tolerant of someone wanting to enslave them. Whether beliefs are delivered with love has no bearing on whether they are right or wrong. Some slave owners lovingly owned their slaves and expressed how their love was for the best interests of slaves. By the same token if the family of a murder vicitim angrily tells the murderer he’s an evil person their anger doesn’t mean they are wrong. Its the same way with lesbians and gays, its unreasonable for you to expect anything but anger in response to your attempts to deprive them of the same rights you have. You deserve an angry response Chrisi, you haven’t earned any love.
Yes, Chrisi – I am intolerant of Christian supremacists like Cameron who work to pass laws against me, try to diminish my humanity, and insult my marriage. Only a genuine idiot or bigot would expect people being s**t on by a washed up celebrity to respond in any other fashion than indignance.
We are reacting the same way fundie Christians would act if we called them inferior and tried to ban their marriages. That you can’t see this double standard is rather sad and doesn’t speak highly of your morals or intelligence.
