One of the minor footnotes to the bloody mess that the supposedly great powers managed to whip up in Angola was a Reagan Era gala honoring Jonas Savimbi and UNITA. Billed as a fundraiser for our guys in a terribly serious bit of the Cold War, it cost lots, but somehow did not do much to fund UNITA. Little was offered in the way of apology.
